Valentine’s Day is right around the corner (okay, it’s still
a month away, but where’s the harm in getting a head start?), which means that
it’s time to celebrate love! I am blessed with so many sweet people in my life
who I love and who I know love me back. Isn’t love a beautiful thing?
On that note, I’m happy to introduce a new episode of
Artbooking Made Easy: You & Me layouts. Our inspiration today comes from
pages 58–59 of the Cricut® Artbooking booklet. These sweet shapes
and fun backgrounds are the perfect way to preserve memories of all your loved
ones.
Don’t these pages just make you want to go out and do a
photo shoot with the people you love? And then scrapbook all those photos, of
course! Let’s take a look at some of my favorite features on these
love-inspired pages.
I love this heart border to begin with, but I love how the
artist dressed it up by wrapping baker’s twine around it. Add in some freehand
machine stitching, and you’ve got a fun little cluster feature on your page.
Did you notice the little “2013” tag sticking out from
behind that photo? It’s actually a journaling tag! The artist used a photo mat
from the You & Me-themed keys and turned it into a journaling element to be
tucked away. Such a great idea! You can still get your journaling in without
losing any room.
This page couldn’t ask you to love it more. First off, those
hearts! All those cute little hearts on this page are actually the cutouts from
one of the overlays on the You & Me keys on the Artbooking cartridge.
Instead of throwing them away, the artist used them here to make this darling
page. The design stays neat because the columns are evenly spaced, but the
hearts going in opposite directions and laid out with no rhyme or reason makes
it just interesting enough. It’s like a little “heart attack” right there on
the page!
Look at these fun sparkly birds! I love glitzing up a page
with fun elements like this, which is also what’s so great about the Artbooking
cartridge—you can use two linked shapes and cut one out in a different color to
add some dimension to your shape. Look at the Artbooking booklet to see what
I’m talking about.
Remember those hearts cut out from that overlay? Here’s what
that overlay looks like. You can see here how versatile it can be. On one page,
it’s used as a background for the title “Hello.” (and who doesn’t love those
tiny little hearts, especially on a baby page!), but on the other page, it’s
used traditionally as an overlay.
I love this little element at the bottom of the page. The
artist used a stamped alphabet in just a slightly darker shade than the paper
but then made it pop by tracing the letters in black.
I hope you loved these pages as much as I do! And I hope
these ideas inspire you as you use the Artbooking cartridge to work on your own
love-inspired layouts, cards, and crafts!
