First off, thanks for all your great reading suggestions for my new Kindle! I’m having a blast figuring it out—it’s so easy on the eyes, I’ve decided to read “Pillars of the Earth” by Ken Follett. The book is 1,000 pages long, but the Kindle should make it a breeze.
But I’ve been doing much more than reading since my last post: It’s been a busy week at Close To My Heart. Our new Summer Idea Book started shipping to Consultants and the response has been wonderful—thank you so much for your enthusiastic response and wonderful e-mails!
I’ve been thrilled to read the many messages you’ve sent in expressing your delight with the new stamp set designs, from fresh twists on classics like “get well” sentiments to totally new themes like gears and even rubber duckies! I thought I’d share a couple of the comments I’ve read this week:
Consultant Jan Dagley e-mailed:
“Typically, I don't gush over every new Idea Book...we've been given so many wonderful copies over the years. While always very excited by their release, I'm able to contain myself. Not so this time! This Idea Book hits the mark on every account... (I) felt so strongly about it that I felt I should tell you so. I love every square inch of it! It shows what great effort was taken with every submission...the layouts and cards are varied and exciting, the new add-on products are appropriate and ideal compliments to the new line of papers, the stamps are often restyled winners of days gone by; … but now reintroduced in stylish interpretations that have me seriously wanting to take to the woods again, just to have an excuse to use them!”
Consultant Geri Polasek said:
“All I can say is "WOW!!! What an awesome job done on the Summer Catalog. …I need to go to bed now but I know I will have a hard time sleeping tonight as I am brainstorming the many different workshops that I can offer to my guests. I feel like a little girl in a candy store---which do I choose to show/demonstrate first to my guests? It is like a whole new world out there with Close To My Heart's great products---it is endless!!! Thank you again for the spark!!!”
I couldn’t agree more with these sentiments! With each new release, I pronounce the latest edition as my favorite, and when I say it, I mean it! Each idea book seems even more on target with versatile paper kits, unique stamp designs, and artwork that really inspires.
I often get asked which kit is my favorite in each catalog—that’s an unfair question, because I love them all and we’ve labored on every detail to make each one special. I was very drawn to the “Back Country” kit, which is why I chose it for the cover. The intense hues and rugged patterns remind me of the mountains that surround the beautiful valley I live in. And don’t you think our cover model resembles my husband, David? (Perhaps that’s another reason I like this kit so much!)
But if I HAD to choose a favorite from the Summer book, I think it would be the surfer-savvy “Moon Doggie.” This kit rocks! As many of you know, one of my favorite places on earth is Hawaii, and this kit transports me there without ever leaving home! The lush hibiscus flower, the weather-worn surfboards, and the layers of palm fronds all work together in this kit to make any vacation special (Hawaiian or not!). I have photos from previous adventures in Hawaii that are itching to be paired with the Moon Doggie papers. For the many of you who haven’t seen the new idea book yet, I thought I’d give you a peek at “Moon Doggie” and some artwork you can create with it. Anybody else ready for summer?
And while you’re waiting to get your hands on your own copy of a Summer catalog, do you want to know a little behind-the-scenes information about our catalog strategy? I am happy to share it with you! First off, Close To My Heart is unique in that we publish not one but THREE idea books every year: Spring, Summer, and Autumn/Winter. We’ve learned that scrapbooking, cardmaking and stamping in general are much like fashion—there are hot trends in color and design that simply can’t be addressed in just one annual book. Three books ensure we target what’s hot, WHEN it’s hot. Three books create and sustain tremendous momentum for our Consultants and our customers who are always looking for the next “new” thing—and we deliver, with plenty of new stamp sets, papers, embellishments and more that are brand new each issue. For example, did you know that there are more than 70 new products in the Summer book alone? And typically, there are even more in our Autumn/Winter release! Also, by publishing three smaller books a year, we keep prices low—just a fraction of the cover price of most of our competitors. This means our idea book is affordable for everyone who wants one to have one, and we’re all about sharing inspiration, right? By following these philosophies, Consultants now distribute MILLIONS of Close To My Heart catalogs every year.
I think you can see why I LOVE our idea books—I’m over the moon for them! I’m so glad you like them, too: here’s to a wonderful, stamping-filled summer!

You will love "The Pillars of the Earth". I've re-read it over the years and it will transport back in time. It's a great read.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree that it's great to have three idea books a year. It really helps to build excitement. I love to read them over and over to get ideas for my scrapbooks and cards.
I LOVE the new Idea Book! I got it today in the mail and haven't been able to put it down. The piece in Keynotes about blogging was a great read.
ReplyDeleteThere are quite a few CTMH bloggers out there that do challenges..It is a great source of inspiration to use certain colors or sketches! It helps you step outside your comfort zone! It is almost like a swap without the mail LOL. When I paticipate in a non CTMH challenge I always try to use my CTMH products and get them out there in the blogosphere...
You will have to try some!!!
Thanks again you rock!
I, too, loved the new idea book. My inlaws just added a level to that love, they are taking us to yellowstone next week and you better believe I will be back country'in the pics asap :)

Jeannette,
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to get my hands on the new summer catalog. I am pretty sure it is amazing.
The Pillars of the Earth was a huge favorite of mine, you will find it a breeze to read, and will be done in no time.
Let us know what you think when you are done reading.
I'm a new consultant that joined in January and I was excited about the new catalog and was amazed at how awesome the new products are! I can't wait for my customers to see the catalog but I need to wipe the drool off it first! LOL Great job and I especially like the USA stamps - it's perfect for our Scrapping for Soldiers crops!
ReplyDeleteThank you for making this the best idea book yet!
Kristie
I too have not been able to put the new book down. Every time I look through it I find something I missed the time before. I placed an order the first day it was available on line and am impatiently awaiting to receive it. Since then I have placed another order and of course, have another list going. Thank goodness my husband doesn't get on my CTMH sites.
ReplyDeleteThanks for another amazing idea book filled with new things. I can't wait to get my hands on the new Wishes book!!
Yes, this newest Idea Book is FABULOUS!!! I am absolutely amazed with each book - just when I think I don't need more stamps, paper, and accessories, CTMH comes out with something I just HAVE to have. I am looking forward to playing with the new summer products and I'm so glad I'm a CTMH Consultant, what a great company!
ReplyDeleteJeanette,
ReplyDeleteYour instincts were right when you went to 3 idea books per year! My customers love it and so do I! Gives me an excuse to have an open house 3 times per year and these are always successful plus my customers get very excited to see a new catalog that often!
The summer Idea book is awesome! I always love the paper you put out but I especially love all the new embellishments you are introducing!
Keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
Kelly Mittelmeier
I fell in love with Pillars of the Earth! His follow up book, World Without End is also a great read! Don't let the number of pages keep you from reading! :)
ReplyDeleteOoooh, Pillars of the Earth is my very favorite book. I remember when I found my first copy at a yard sale for a quarter...brought it home, opened the cover and was lost in my own world until it was finished. Then I read it again. Since then I have bought two more copies...1 is just a back up in case anything should happen to my current copy. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI have passed that book to all of my family and friends and everyone has loved it and couldn't put it down! It's such an amazing story that just completely draws you in.
When you are finished you'll have to read the second book he wrote about the same town called World Without End. It's almost as good as Pillars.
Jeanette, Thank you so much for your wonderful blog. I love every new catty!!! Thank you so much for all of your exciting and innovative products!!! Thank you so much for sharing with us your birthday cupcakes!!! They are so beautiful and you have such a talented group of people in your art department!!! Sincerely, Shelley
ReplyDeleteMy list is a mile long once again with all the wonderful items I want... now if I could just carve out the time to use them!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a beautiful catty.
that was my choise of books for you to read. sorry i couldn't remember the author. i'm bad at that. anyways i loved it. i was on the waiting list at the library for a month to get it last summer. but i think i got it read in a week. hopefully i will find a decent copy this year, and can re read it. hurrah for rummage sales. didn't know about the 2nd one. thanks ladies.
ReplyDeletegreat job on the idea book. a lot of the paper isn't my style but i appreciate the change in styles. i think animal crackers or bella or maybe tinker, will be my favorite. doesn't matter because i will probable be spending all my money on stamps. Have a great day
My favorite is also the MoonDoggie Paper also, I can so pick it with pictures of my daughter skim boarding and my son body surfing in the cold Atlantic...our trips to the beach mean going to Maine. The kids don't seem to mind the cold water even if us adults can barely tolerate it. My next favorite is the Bella papers. The ducky stamp set is adorable and love the button set too...as you can tell, I've started my wish list...
ReplyDeleteI love the new book and I am especially excited because 2 of my pictures were chosen to be used this time. Thats my awesome husband and son advertising the military stamp set on page 69!!! AND that is my son and daughter on the cover of Keynotes!!!!!! Im just thrilled to pieces and very proud.
ReplyDeleteif you haven't read "the alchemist" by paul coelho. that would be a good choise for you also. its similar to pilgrams progress.
ReplyDeleteJeanette- Pillars of the Earth is one of best books I have ever read. I read it first when it was first published 20 years ago and then 10 years ago it was the first book I chose for my book club. I just read World Without End this summer. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAnd I too love Moon Doggie and have quite a list of photos to scrap with it: Big Beach in Maui, Cape Cod, Typhoon Lagoon and then I'll use leftovers for our many trips to beaches on Lake Michigan.

Ooohh, I received some of my NEW goodies last night! I am SOOOO lovin' Back Country; and Moon Doggie is MUCH more vibrant in person than in the catalog!!! I LOVE THIS CATALOG!!! Can't wait to hold an "impromptu" Open House after my NSD Crop!!!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Pillars . . . what a great book! I haven't tried a Kindle reader yet, but it sure would be nice to not have to tote a huge book like, Pillars, around. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, and this issue of our Idea Book is a-mazing! Wow, and very, very current on what is "hot" in the market. I noticed that Target has a whole line of robot cards and gift bags. Wahoo!
