My Mother’s Day

Happy today everyone! I sincerely hope that all of you who are mothers had a beautiful Mother’s Day. Last week was one of the busiest weeks of this year for me. I had meetings and events with Operation Smile, Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year judges meetings, humanitarian efforts for my church assignment, plus a Mother’s Day card-making workshop for 60 little children in my church. On Friday, I also attended a joyous and well-earned celebration for a dear friend who after many years of hard work graduated from the University of Utah with his Doctorate in Educational Leadership, EdD. The week came to a crescendo on Saturday with a great event including all the mothers in my life (plus our families) at a wonderful outing of a fine dinner and movie on Saturday. Whew!

I get tired (and happy) just revisiting it all. You know each one of these events would make a great blog entry, and I’ll certainly write about each one in my journal. I purposely left my special Sunday pretty clear so I could just sit and relax. I wasn’t expecting anything; just attending church, watching my grandson Mason and putting my feet up. When I returned from church, I came home to find my home sparkling clean, with breakfast made by my two youngest daughters! They made me bacon and eggs and fluffy pancakes. David was also there helping them. Wow! I couldn’t have asked for a better gift. But it gets better . . . as we were eating and enjoying the moment, Rachel and Aubrey presented me with handmade cards they made me, each overflowing with sentiments of love. Could there be any greater gift for a mother from her children? I feel truly blessed. Thank you girls, for your goodness and kindness. Thank you for your love, which I return 100%. You are my treasures, and I will cherish your cards and that love forever!

And I also wish to thank David for making Mother’s Day such a special occasion for me. I love his thoughtfulness. He always tells me I am a good mother (which I never get tired of hearing!). He surprised me with beautiful spring flowers on Saturday; they are lovely and they smell gorgeous, too! But that wasn’t all. To my amazement, he had another surprise up his sleeve. He presented me with a tell-tale turquoise box. Ladies, many of you know what that box means, just like I do: Tiffany’s! He gave me a beautiful pair of silver earrings. Without doubt, these are destined to become my favorite. Thank you sweetheart, for your gifts and your loving appreciation. It means the world to me.

To all you mothers: I salute you for all the selfless acts of love you give to your loved ones, for the joy you find in the quiet moments no one will see and the hardships you alone will carry. May today be a day when you draw strength to continue, to be grateful to those who have shaped you, and to rejoice in the extraordinary blessings that come with this sacred, wonderful, tiring, eternal endeavor. May God bless each and every one of you always.
