Fall is a great season just bursting with “treats,” whether you’re a kid or just young at heart. There’s a little something for everybody—candy for the kids, haunted houses for the teens, and carving pumpkins for the whole family. If you have the right attitude, even raking the leaves can be a glorious treat!
Take a minute and think about what your favorite Halloween treat is. Is it that sticky box of Milk Duds you sneak when no one’s looking? Or are you a Good and Plenty fan? Perhaps your favorite “treat” is something inedible but no less scrumptious—like decorating your yard, or taking a colorful drive up the canyon, or the smell of burning leaves.
In our family, we love going to a local antique village. It’s decorated festively for the spooky season and full of delightful shops and eateries. We love taking the kids up for a fun day of exploring, shopping, and picking the perfect pumpkin. I always take my camera, and every shot—full of smiling faces, colorful pumpkins, and decorative corn stalks—ends up being scrapbook worthy.
Comment on this post with your favorite Halloween “treat”—whatever it may be. Just post before November 6, because on that date, I’ll draw FIVE lucky winners to receive a gorgeous hand-made two-page Halloween layout, made just for you by the Close To My Heart art studio! My big activity for Howl-O-Ween is dressing up my dogs and making cards with their photo - favorite treat : Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.
ReplyDeleteI just love Halloween! It's so fun to get the kids all dressed up and eat yummy candy! My favorite is Pumpkin Shaped Reese's Peanut Butter Cups!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween treat is the happiness & excitement on my kids face's when they get to dress up & go see our family & neighbors! I love, how much it means to them when Mommy & Daddy dress up with them too! Our whole families favorite treat is my caramel popcorn I make for them. It goes so fast, I never get to try it myself! :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite "treat" is seeing the little kids dressed up so cute! Just love to go to the front door to see what 'creature' will be there next. :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is getting to go to the pumpkin patch with the entire family and then decorating our yard. Such fun memories...
ReplyDeleteOn Halloween, my favorite is taking my kids to the local nursing home to trick or treat. I love to see the faces of the residents light up as they see the kids. I also have peace of mind knowing this is a safe place for my kids & they look forward to it every year. It also reminds me of my younger day when Mom & Dad had decided I was to old to trick or treat & an elderly neighbor had called asking where we were as she had missed us. Then we stopped evey year to see her even though we wen't trick or treating. Karen
ReplyDeleteWe always, always, always, make bat and pumpkin sugar cookies. And they have to be colored, or else it breaks tradition. Black sugar cookies for the bats, orange for the pumpkins :)
ReplyDelete~C
Popcorn balls! I dont know how to make them but, each year I just hope to have some delivered to me!!! My other favorite is tootsie rolls...love those old time favorites! Thank you so much for the awesome give away!
ReplyDeleteThis year I made pumpkin bread... it is our new favorite treat. My 3 year old suggested it!! What a fun time of year for us. :)
ReplyDeleteCan't resist Bit'O Honey's. It's the only time of year you can seem to find them so when I came across a huge bag of them at Mills Fleet Farm the other day, I bought two! My dentist is NOT going to like this at all. . . . .
ReplyDeleteMy favorite candy is the mini chocolate bars. Yes i do sneak a few from the kids each year (they are 3 and4):)
ReplyDeleteI also love being able to dress the kids up and take a ton of photos, which I of course scrapbook!
Sharon L.
I love watching halloween through my children's eyes. We have so much fun deciding what they're going to be and then how excited they are when they get to put the costume on.
ReplyDeleteCara Doyle
My favorite non-candy treat is getting the kids dressed up and watching them go!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite candy treat: Junior Mints.
And this is my first year making Halloween cards... that was a treat too!
peanut butter cups :-)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween "treat" this year is to watch my daughters excitement for the holiday. She turned 3 in June, and though last year she kind of understood it, she is just so way excited this year!! When asked about Halloween she proudly announces "I am going to be Tinkerbell with a bun in my hair." She is growing up way too fast!!
ReplyDeleteOur favorite thing to do for fall is to go to the local pumpkin patch and let our girls pick out hand sized pumpkins. Then we let them paint their pumpkins and we put them out as Halloween decorations. Favorite treat: mini Snickers.
ReplyDeleteA few years back, some friends & I decided to get together and visit our local "Berry Farm" complete with fun fall activities such as a hayride, petting zoo, corn maze, and pumpkin patch. I anticipate this event more and more each year, and I hope we'll continue for many more years. Nothing says fall quite like a bright blue sky, colorful leaves, and that crisp air hitting you in the face while you are enjoying a warm cup of cider, which is one of my favorite treats.
ReplyDeleteGina Stockfisch
For me, it the smell of fall-I "treat" myself to lots of candle that smell like pumpkin, cookies and spices.
ReplyDeletemy favorite treat is all the great costumes that are worn by everyone.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of Halloween is watching the toddlers being thrilled about a piece of candy.
ReplyDeleteBark K - Illinois
Our daughter in law grew up helping her family run a pumpkin patch! Now she lives far away from them, so I try to spoil her every fall with fun treats. Our son even proposed to her at a local pumpkin patch! Last weekend we took our family camping to Galena, IL and saw all of the beautiful fall colors.
ReplyDeletePersonal favorite treat is Jr. Mints - yum :)
~Joyce
I love anything chocolate, especially Twix.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween Treat is watching the kids in their costumes run through the neighborhood, hurrying, to get to the next house. It brings back such wonderful memories of when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteEvery year after trick or treat, like my mother before me, I dutifully go through the candy they've collected in search of anything with a torn wrapper or looking like it had been tampered with. AND, like my mother before me, I nab my favorite candy from the stash. Most often I grab lemon heads and watermelon jolly ranchers!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite all time Halloween treat will forever be....popcorn balls! When I was a little girl, our neighbor made these each year, and I would score my first one, then go home and change costumes so I could get another!(greedy little devil).
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is our visit to the local scary farm every year. Ottawa boasts two, full of haunted houses, fog mazes, spooky villages, the famous haunted wagon ride, and of course all the treats that go with halloween. We look forward to going every year, and I love that as my children grow they will look back on these traditions with such great fondness. Happy Halloween Jeanette!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite candy treat are those orange and black peanut butter candies.
ReplyDeleteOh this is so much fun! Let's see...I would have to say that my all time favorite Halloween treat would be pumpkin seeds! I have such wonderful memories of going to the pumpkin patch with my dad when I was younger and trying to pick out the pumpkin with the most seeds in it. (Of course we never knew if we picked a winner until we opened it up to carve it.) We would scoop them out, wash them off, and cover them in seasoned salt and then cook them to perfection! (It was such a special tradition for us that my dad even mailed some to me my first year of college for Halloween.) *Ü*
ReplyDeleteThis is terrible...I love those candy corns. It's terrible because my sister is a dental assistant and gives me trouble about it all the time...so I do have to sneak them!
ReplyDeleteReeses are by far my favorite-- and my worst weakness in the candy, chocolate, fattening department. I purposely buy our treats to give away without them so I don't eat them all! Even so, I will be "borrowing" some from my kids stashes this year!
ReplyDeleteFilled with treats and tricks it's hard to pick a Halloween favorite. A few years ago I found it though. The BIG caramel apple from Williams-Sonoma. While working for this company years ago I sampled a slice of this heavenly apple and have made it a traditional purchase every year! You MUST try one!
ReplyDeleteI love to make and eat carmel apples!!! Homemade. . . lots of options for the kids to jazz theirs up the way they like them!
ReplyDeleteI also love to make "ghoulish" food and treats. The Snake Sandwich is a family favorite.
Thanks for adding to the Halloween fun!
Ok, I'll admit it...I'm addicted to Milk Duds (basically anything caramel). I'm on my second bag this week and I can't get enough of them! I know it's bad when my husband says, "They're gone already? Didn't you just buy some yesterday???"
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is the homemade broccoli cheese soup that we eat out of bread bowls every year. And my great grandmother's famous recipe of spiced cider warming in the crock pot for when we get back from trick or treating. Mmmmm! So Good!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat from the plastic jack o' lantern bucket is surprisingly something that I think is overlooked and usually saved until all the good stuff is gone... SMARTIES! The cellophane wrapped goodness is often the last to be eaten and considered the dregs at the bottom of the barrel, however their sugary goodness is highly addictive!
ReplyDeleteI really love making fun treats for kids to take to school. I love making toppers for treat bags or a special homemade treat.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is watching my husband's excitement at getting to spend time with our daughters. This is his night to spend some one on one time with them trick-or-treating. On Halloween, he is the first one ready to go, the girls cheerleader and candy holder along the way, and the last one to bed. He truly is our family treat.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite treat at this time of year is baked apples with cinnamon and nutmeg wrapped in pastry! Yum! It not only fills my home with a wonderful aroma, but it takes me back to my childhood when my Mom used to buy a case of MacIntosh apples from the local Elks Club for charity, and we had so many apples that she'd always bake some for dessert. I'll be baking some tonight since we'll be out trick-or-treating tomorrow night. :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sweet Halloween treat is Reece's pumpkin-shaped peanut butter cups. Watching my children's "fright" and delight is the best!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat this time of year is hot chocolate and this pretzel mix that I make every year! Yum yum!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite activity is throwing a big Halloween party for all of our friends. This year our costume theme for the whole group is Star Wars. I can't wait to see what creative costumes our friends have come up with, and of course, to take lots of photos to scrapbook later!
ReplyDeleteDawn H, Colorado
My favorite 'treat' is the kids' costumes. I just adore seeing them all dressed up and pretending.
ReplyDeleteI love handing out the treats to all the girls and boys on Halloween night. I love seeing their little faces and all of their cute costumes.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the pumpkin seeds...not so much the pumpkin carving, I leave that up to my boys to do but I love to scoop out the seeds, wash them off, salt & pepper them and bake. YUMMY!!! Great alternative to all that candy!
ReplyDeleteHalloween is one of my favorite holidays! I basically love all treats, but my favorite has to be Twix candy bars. I love the chewy caramel and cookie crunch. YUM!! Also love our family tradition of hot apple cider and doughnuts after trick-or-treating. It is the perfect when to finish a fun night.
ReplyDeletemy favorite halloween tradition is to get pumpkin shaped pizzaz from Papa Murphys and have a dinner all customed for halloween. My kids look forward to it each year.
ReplyDeleteBecky Peterson
I love hot spiced cider and fresh donuts. There is an orchard outside of town that has great cider and donuts and a barn full of kittens. My husband and I are allergic to cats, so this gives our girls a chance to get their "kitten fix."
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is seeing my boys beautiful, innocent faces light up with joy and wonder that on one day a year you can dress up and go around from house and house and they hand out candy! That is my Treat!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is hot apple cider with cinnamon - so delicious!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the trunk or treat my church organizes. There is always hot chocolate and cider that warms to the soul. All of the children are adorable and I know everyone there so I don't worry about my son getting hurt or sick. Plus, all of the great decorated trunks that win prizes! It is a great tradition that I love each Halloween!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is those chewy peanut butter candies in the black and orange wrappers that most people don't like ;-) hehe
ReplyDeleteAnd my favorite thing is seeing the leaves change color but I live in AZ so it's tough ;-)
Happy Halloween Jeanette and Fellow Consultants!
My favorite treat is hearing my son make the sound of a witch's cackle.
ReplyDeleteIsabelle Dickens
By far my favorite treat is Reese's Peanut Butter Cups...or is it....Butterfinger....or....Twizzlers....or.......You get the idea!!! It's anything that is good, sweet and not so good for you!!!
ReplyDeletePumpkins... in every color, shape, and form... are my absolute favorite treat of halloween. When the pumpkins come out I just get this sense of nature's fall beauty and I absolute love it! In a place where the leaves dont change to gorgeous colors... pumpkins are my fall inspiration :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, this makes me think of my childhood. When I was a kid and went out trick-0r-treating, my all time favorite treat was those little wax bottles filled with a sugary liquid. We got them every year from our 'old' neighbor lady. Now, I can't even imagine liking them, but that was my favorite and most memorable as a kid.
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween!
Tammy
Well, candy aside (that's a given), I wait for fall to make my friend Angie's Chocolate Chip Pumpkin bread. MMMMMMMM...I think I need to make some this weekend. I also love freshly roasted pumpkin seeds.
ReplyDeleteNwvwe really been a fan of Halloween but my husband loves it. Our children adore it as well. Even though I have never cared for it my lil treat is getting the kids ready to go trick or treating with daddy lol. Their bright smiles and beautiful innocense makes me giggle.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many things we love about Halloween - the pumpkin patch, picking the perfect costume, dressing up! and of course photos of all of these fun times!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is definitely Reese Peanut Butter Pumpkins! The extra peanut butter makes them so yummy!
Sheri Daniel
My favorite 'treat' as a kid was anything chocolate and sweet. Now as an adult my favorite 'treat' is to watch my almost 4-year old be soooo excited to wear his Spiderman Costume. Every day for the entire month of October he asked if he got to wear it and go out and say Trick-Or-Treat. I wish he could stay this 'sweet' and innocent forever. At least I have CTMH to help me preserve these memories!! Thank You CTMH!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is to go 'leaf peeping' in Northern Michigan every October. We love hiking through the woods and looking at all of the colorful leaves. It's a season that is much too short for my liking.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite "treat" about Halloween is the leaves that are all over the ground. I love walking and playing in the leaves. I love the crunch of them under my feet and the smell of them in the air. Their colors are magnificent! It is my favorite time of year.
ReplyDeleteMy other favorite "treat" to eat is peanut m&ms.
Thanks, Jeanette! Happy Halloween!
My favorite treat, hmmmm. That is hard to narrow down. This is my favorite time of year. I love the fall color, the leaves raining from the sky and pumpkin patches. But I think my favorite treat would be pumpkin soup with a nice crusty bread on the side. Hmmmmm, hmmmm, good!
ReplyDeleteT.
When I lived in a home that had a fireplace, my treat was the first fire of the year. I live in Arizona, so some years I had to run the a/c in order to have the fire but it was totally worth it! I love the ambiance, the smell of the burning wood, the crackle. It made waiting for the trick-or-treaters at the door such a pleasure. That's my favorite . . . I hold that memory close.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is seeing all the kids in their costumes. This makes the day special to me the fun of pretending to be someone or thing that your not.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is watching my girls get so excited about dressing up. Oh, and reeses cups are a close 2nd!! :-)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat would have to be Coffee Crisp...love it! I know my cousin is from Salt Lake and you can't get it down there, so in Canada, but it's delightful...I just had a mini Halloween one!
ReplyDeleteHalloween has not always been my favorite holiday until my first born was born that day. From that day and now four years later we LOVE CELEBRATING IT! It is so fun to plan a birthday and HALLOWEEN for him! This year my favorite treat to make has been caramel dip!
ReplyDeleteOh I would have to say that my favorite treat on Halloween is seeing my kids excited about dressing up. They are at the age right now that they will be excited for another couple of years. I will savor every minute I have of their pre-teen lives. Then I'll get to savor that salty sweetness of Teenage years??? right??? Shelli
ReplyDeleteWe love Halloween in our house. Between the awesome carved jack-o-lanterns courtesy of my talented husband and the trips to the Pumpkin Farms and Boo at the Zoo. My favorite Halloween moment, however, is just between me and my husband. After the kids are in bed after a long night of trick-or-treating, we sit on the couch together and eat up some of the best candy bars in their loot!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Jill Myers
One of my favorite treats of the last few years is our church's annual pumpkin patch. We live in a small rural community and it's a special treat for the entire community when the 18 wheeler from New Mexico pulls up and the church parking lot gets covered in pumpkins! This year we unloaded more than 1000 pumpkins! I love driving by the patch every morning when taking the kids to school and how it brings our community together to kick off all the fall festivities. Happy Fall Y'all!
ReplyDeleteOne year the neighbor across the street from us gave out these teeny bouncy balls for Halloween. I loved them!! Never seen anything like it since!
ReplyDeletemy favorite treat is going trick or treating with my son. I hated it when I was too old to go and I have been so happy now that I have a kid for an excuse to go again!
ReplyDeleteI LoVe Halloween!! One of my favorite parts is helping my daughter figure out a costume, and watching her enjoy the day! My favorite sweet treat has to be Reese's peanut butter cups, and I can never say no to carmel apples!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween treat is meeting up with our friends, the Davidson's, to go trick or treating. We became friends 9 years ago when our husbands were going to the Officer's Candidate School (Army) in Ft. Benning, GA. Since then we have had 4 children between us and almost 20 moves! Yes, that's 20 addresses between our two families! Imagine our surprise when both of our families ended up 2 blocks away from each other in North Pole, Alaska. For the last 3 years, we have bundled up, (it's usually about 10 degrees outside with at least 10 inches of snow) and trick or treated about 2 blocks, or until we can't feel our feet any more!
ReplyDeleteI know its nothing special, but to our military families who move around so much, it's priceless!
Have a wonderful weekend with your families and friends,
Sonya Rissler
My favorite Halloween treat is taking my kids trick or treating. Even though my youngest is 12, he and his 14 year old brother are still going tonight and seeing their excitement is the best treat for me.
ReplyDeleteBarbra Otten
My son is grown, so MY favorite Halloween treat is candy; really, really good candy.
ReplyDeleteMy family and I love Halloween! we really get into the spirit of fun and costumes. My favorite treat around this time is caramel corn. I love to make it with little piece of crushed up reeses pieces. A fun treat to bag up for friends and family.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween treat is watching the leaves change colors on the hillsides around us. Then when the leaves start to fall my boys and I get out there and blow them into a big pile. Every year I am a scrapbook spread of us jumping into the leaves and enjoys one of nature's gifts.
ReplyDeletewe are fortunate to live on a dairy farm. every year we host a hayride for our friends and family. i love the way our friends look forward to this each year...and their kids do too. it is especially nice that their grown kids still want to come, and they bring friends of theirs too. some years we have a costume contest...some years a pumpkin contest...most years a food competition.
ReplyDeletedenise sanner
My fav treat is the vanilla tootsie rolls. Yumm-O
ReplyDeleteFall and Halloween are one of my favorite times of the year (Christmas is number 1!) I love to rake leaves with the kids and watch them giggle as they jump into them. All while taking in the smell and sounds of fall. My favorite treat would have to be none other than REESE's and lucky for me-no one else likes them in my household!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeanette! Happy Halloween!
Jennifer
Don't know what you call them, but I love those chewy peanut buttery wrapped candies that are so sweet and stick to your teeth!!! Happy Halloween! laura j
ReplyDeleteI love fall, but my favorite thing on Halloween is sorting that big pile of candy (now I do it with the kids). There's just something about piles of candy scattered over the living room floor that makes me happy!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is the Twizzler licorice. Halloween is such a fun time for photos. I would love to win a Halloween layout from your art studio. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is a Kit Kat. I always tell my kids when they're trick-or-treating to make sure they grab the Kit Kats or Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I know... I'm terrible... but we don't get to trick-or-treat! LOL!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat at Halloween has always been to watch my kids in their Halloween Parade at school. I only have one more year to watch my son at Elementary school and will be sad to know it is the last year.
ReplyDeleteI love the chocolate, but I like that all year. So at Halloween I really look forward to seeing the little kids, under 5, all dressed up and usually so shy. They're so cute!!!
ReplyDeleteBeth C
i work retail and my favorite part of halloween is giving candy to all the kids who come in to shop! since i am working i miss out on being able to hand out candy to the neighborhood trick-or-treaters and so this way i am still able to get in on that action!
ReplyDeletemy second favorite part of halloween is the costume parties! its such a great way for us to have a little bit of what i call peter pan syndrom (you know, not wanting to grow up!) so my friends and i always dress up in costume and have so much fun!
a perfect halloween includes both of these activities for me.... and lots of crunch bars and kit kats too! ;)
I just LOVE fall in general. My favorite time with the pumpkins, scarecrows, the fall colors, candles burning & with wearing warmer clothes and the little blankets on the couches. I love to decorate for Fall. I start at the end of Sept and take it down when I decorate for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteWe just moved to Kansas from Arizona and NOW I can enjoy the leaves even more as my yard and street are filled with leaves & all those beautiful colors in which my favorite time of year has just gotten better!!
This season makes me feel warm.
My favorite candy for Halloween is CANDY CORN!! I have such a weakness for it that I avoid any aisles in the supermarket that may have it before October. But once October 1st gets here I will buy a bag. After that, October is one Orange, Yellow and White sugar high all month long. Sometimes I'll throw some roasted peanuts in the mix when I want to 'water it down'. After Oct 31 - no more candy corn for a whole year!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory of halloween is always having to plan the costume to have a snowsuit underneath. Where I grew up in Northern BC, halloween usually ment freezing cold and snow. My favorite treat is tootsie rolls or any version of them.
ReplyDeleteLaura
My favorite candy is Reese's Pieces. I can eat that all year round but for Halloween, we mix them into popcorn balls. This is something my parents always did with us when we were growing up and I started doing this with my kids. My 4 year old loves getting his hands all sticky and making them into balls. My 2 year old just loves to eat them, lol
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of falloween is handing out candy and see all the kids dressed up and the excitement on their faces! :-)
ReplyDeleteOH goodness! I LOVE Candy Corn! It is the only time of year I'll eat it, and I look forward to it all year long!
ReplyDeleteGrandkids have to be the best "treat" of all!!! Peanut butter cups, too.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite "treat" is going to the pumpkin patch with my family and finding the perfect pumpkin. Peanut butter cups aren't bad either:-)
ReplyDeleteSince I am in a "Biggest Loser" competition this year, I have vowed to stay away from all treats, but my favorite thing about Halloween is dressing up my kids and see the excitement on their faces!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit my favorite thing about this kind of year are the candy mallow pumpkins and candy corn. I don't know what it is but they are the best fall candy and you can only find them at Halloween time
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is to pull out our decorations from over the years, many that our children made when they were little, and now new ones our Grandson is making, getting the pantry orginized and ready for monthes of baking, cooking, gift giving, it is a time when we start getting cosy fro the uncoming winter
ReplyDeleteSince I haven't eaten sugar in two years, I try to stay away from Halloween celebrations. Instead my favorite "treat" is going on a date with my husband to dinner and a movie! We don't do that enough. We will see "Where the Wild Things Are" tonight!
ReplyDeleteI have to say that my favorite Halloween treat is handing out candy and seeing all of the costumes and smiling faces. Especially the really little ones, they are so amazed that you are giving them candy I just love it! My Katie is 20 months old this year and I can't wait to see her face when someone actually puts candy into her plastic pumpkin that she has been carrying around for a month now.!
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween!
My favorite treat this time of year is pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting. Yum! Actually anything with pumpkin is delicious. :-)
ReplyDeleteMy treat is an easy one! This is the one holiday where I really cherish the photos more than the holiday itself! We always head to the local cider mill to choose our pumpkins, take photos by the mill pond with the gorgeous fall colors reflected in the still water, and treat ourselves to their homemade cinnamon donuts and cider! Yum!!!
ReplyDeleteI never get tired of these photos - so please tell those sweet artists to leave the ghosts and goblins off my two-page layout, we celebrate the "Spirit of Autumn" this time of year! :)
I love roasting pumpkin seeds right after carving our pumpkins. It's something I've done since I was a kid and now I'm carrying on the tradition with my children.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat this time of year are making yummy pumpkin goodies - bottled pumpkin bread, pumpkin cookies, and pumpkin muffins!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite "treat" is sneaking all the mini Twix bars before Halloween... we always have to buy more candy because we eat all the good stuff before the main event :)

ReplyDeleteCarmel Apples from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. They are sooo yummy! I also love seeing my kids all dressed up, its so fun!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween treat are the Caramel Apple Suckers! YUM! It's the easy way to mix those two wonderful flavors - green apple and caramel - without having to go through any work! I also love the colors associated with this holiday - Hydrangea, Clover Meadow, Orange and Sunny Yellow (or shade variations of those colors).
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween treat is every year we go to the apple orchard and pick apples, the kids love to climb the tree's, they learned how to climb a tree from their grandmother, we eat a bunch of apples while we pick our favorites and then we head to the pumpkin patch and pick our favorite pumpkins right from the vine. We have been going for the past 12 years and every year I take a photo of my husband walking hand in hand with the kids, it is a beautiful photo with all the apple trees.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite "food" treats this time of year are the Candy Corns and Pumpkins! YUM! I can eat the whole bag myself. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI love the fall leaves changing on the trees. They are beautiful when they cover the ground and leave just a few dangling. I love to go on hikes this time of year and take it all in with the fresh damp air.
My favorite "treat" is seeing the day of Halloween through my 3 kids eyes. I love to see their excitement, their faces full of wonderment at the different costumes and the anticipation of being able to say "trick or treat!" to our family and friends!
ReplyDeleteIt's a TREAT to finally get a break from the HOT HOT Arizona days and I always look forward having my doors wide open. I love that on Halloween my big (grown up) kids come over and carve up a few pumpkins. Never liked the gooey seed thing!
ReplyDeletePlus I like Halloween cuz it's my Birthday!! How fun is that??
Jeff likes Halloween because I have Reese's cups and Milky Ways in the house!!
Corn Candy, that's my favorite. This year they even came out with several different flavors. I tried a few of them but the original ones are still my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI love 100 Grand Bar....Lisa H
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is to look back over my Fall and Halloween memories -- in my albums and also memories stored in my mind from when I was a child and the pics are long gone. What fun to remember making the costumes when I was small, to sewing for my own two girls, and being able to assemble adorable Halloween outfits for my granddaughters. A couple favorite pics--Clare with her Minnie Mouse outfit, with a cold pack on her head and black tears running down her cheek from her big painted on eyelashes. She'd fallen and bumped her head.My other favorite was my granddaughters discovering a woolybear (caterpillar) and squatting to look at it closely. My 2 all time favorite memories!
ReplyDeleteMaureen
I love Halloween because I am a grade one teacher. So not only do I get to enjoy the festive spirit from my three children, I get to spend an entire day with giggling, excited, dressed up monsters, ghouls and princesses. What could be more fun!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite - ANYTHING chocolate - Milky Way, Snickers, Twix...and I LOVE that it is the perfect excuse to eat it!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween treat is seeing my boys, who are 1 and 3, scurry around in their bulky costumes with those adorable grins on their faces. It makes me so happy to see them so excited!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween Treat is watching all of the little ones in their costumes and the smiles on their faces.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite "treat" is decorating the downstairs with my family. We create a bat cave in our front room with 350 paper bats I cut out a couple of years ago. The bats are even on the ceiling! The kids and adults who come to trick or treat are always wow-ed by the effect!
ReplyDeletePaige
Autumn and the entire Halloween season is a treat!! It is a favorite for many. A tradition my husband and I have had since we were dating is on Hallowen Eve to carve pumpkins, drink hot apple cider, and watch classic scary movies together! If we werent in the spirit before then we certainly are afterward! :-)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is hot apple cider yum! Taking my babies trick or treating was more than any treat!
ReplyDeleteI love watching my kids enjoy the adventures of Halloween. Whether it is at the pumkpin patch, decorating pumpkins, or trick or treating. I especially enjoyed watching my girls pass out the cards they made to the people who gave them candy...stunned people.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite "treat" has always been coming up with costume ideas. I used to love making them as well, but everybody wants something from the store now... my dream Halloween would be for the whole family to dress in a theme! In the past, I've had my 2 DDs go as a witch and her cat (back in the homemade days), and my DS & I went as the frog prince and princess for his second Halloween. I wsa rather disappointed this year; I've been too stressed out this month to do much so I didn't dress up at all this year. Oh well, more time to plan for next year, I guess!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween treat is taking a tootsie roll and a vanilla tootsie roll and mashing them together! Wonderful...
ReplyDeleteI must confess that Halloween for me has always been a dreaded time. When I was a child I went Trick or Treating with my best friend one night (we were in grade 6), everything was going fine. Until....we went to one house that was very decorated including a life like pumpkin head man. We were done and leaving the lady had closed the door and the man dressed up grabbed me as I was leaving and yelled BOO. Needless to say, I to this day do not like Halloween as things are never as they seem.
ReplyDeleteNow that I am grown with 3 beautiful children of my own - who love Halloween, I try very hard to enjoy the season. Every year they dress up in the sweetest costumes and are adorable. They are 8,6 and 3 and last night my oldest was Woody from Toy Story, my middle son was Buzz Lightyear and our daughter was Jessie the Cowgirl. They were so cute and had a great time. For me anything that they enjoy is a TREAT!
Happy Haunting everyone.
I almost forgot, my favourite candy is Reese Peanut Butter Cups - yummy!
ReplyDeleteMy Halloween "Treat" is seeing my daughter dress up and her thinking that she really is a witch for one night! She held the broom and said she was going to fly just like the one in the movie! Kids have such great imaginations!!
ReplyDeleteJen Watkins
oh, and also the fact that she gives me all her little Snickers bars, because she doesn't like nuts! That's nice too! :)
I don't think I was a big Halloween person, but this year has me rethinking my stance. My daughter is now old enough to get into it. And at work, I now sit amongst some of the biggest enthusiasts you will ever come across. The decorating they did around our offices was just incredible. As for my favorite "treat", we stumbled across it yesterday when we stopped to get coffee - it was a mini heath bar. You just don't see those around very often. So it was a bonus find.
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a dress-up-in-costumes kind of person...but I love answering my door and seeing what everyone else is wearing! Especially the sweet little bitty kids. And I love the treat sized Kit Kats!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween treat is having a Preschool Party! From costumes to making treat bags(this year was finger painting a paper gift bag and adding Halloween cutouts with glue) to yummy treats (sugar cookies dipped in chocolate and puppy chow!) to Trick or Treating from the Moms. It's always a Great Halloween Treat!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween activity/ treat begins in mid September when I start helping at a pumpkin farm festival doing face painting. Growing up as a farm girl, these weekends leading up to Halloween are festive, fun, and allow me to get my "farm fix". Love it! My favorite candy treat also begins early with a bowl on my kitchen island filled with candy corn and peanuts. Love that they taste like a salted nut roll!
ReplyDeleteI work in an elementary school and I have so much fun getting dressed up in costume for our Halloween parade. This year I was Dorothy and I was surprised to find out that there are many kids who have never seen The Wizard of OZ. I love seeing the kids alldressed up too. My favorite treat is Reeses peanut butter cups.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of Halloween has to be the decorating! I just love putting up bats, spiders, witches.... it's so much fun. I think this year though going trick or treating with my daughter was just too much fun!
ReplyDeleteIt's a real treat to paint my DH's face and then mine, get into our costumes, and together we greet the kiddos and their parents at the front door as happy & friendly clowns: He is "Sport" and I'm "Twinkle." He is a very good sport! It's so fun to see the neighbors & hear their comments.
ReplyDeleteFavorite treat...there is no question it's food. Skittles, plain m&m's, Toffee, Sour Patch Kids....oh was I supposed to pick just one!? :) There is no treat that I can call my favorite - it might make another treat mad!!
ReplyDeleteAs a Halloween tradition, we gather the kids who live in town, the grandkids and my teenagers with their girlfriends and carve pumpkins a couple of days before halloween. This year we accomplished six gorgeous pumpkins and each was done very tastefully. We had pizza, laughed and enjoyed the time together. Then on Halloween night the grandkids come over to Grandma's for pictures. I always make a cute Halloween treat of some sort and give one to the kids and mail them to those that live out of state. I make sure to get pictures of all the grandkids in their costumes so I can make a scrapbook page, no matter where they live.
ReplyDeleteI love to dress up my 2 adorable puppies for halloween (they don't like it too much but they look so cute)! My boys are grown so the puppies are all I have until I'm lucky enough to have grandbabies. My favorite treat is definately Reeses Peanut Butter Cups :o)

My favorite treat is having time to make cards and other papercrafting projects and of course I just adore Dove Dark Chocolate!
ReplyDeleteLaurie W. Seguin, TX
My favorite treat as a kid was going in the basement of my great aunt and uncle's house...they used to own our local drive in theatre...and of course it was closed in the winter...their basement was a kids heaven full of every type of treat you could find!!!

My treat is making costumes for my 3 children for Halloween. It is so much fun to talk with each of them about what they want their costume to look like, shop for the supplies, and to work on it together!!
ReplyDeleteI adore any of the chocolate with nuts (snickers, OHenry...). I also sneak some of the candy from when I was a kid (Nerds, jawbreakers etc).
ReplyDeleteOther than that, we love to go out and take our dog to the local dog park to play, and then stop at a local pumpkin patch on the way home.
Halloween was one of the holidays that was new to me when I moved to the US from Norway, and I'm still busy soaking up all the excitement, creating traditions with my own family, and enjoy all the yummy food, scary costumes, and cute children.
ReplyDeleteSnickers - always.
ReplyDeleteMy Favorite Halloween Treat is treating everyone in my family to a warm home made meal before they head out trick-or-treating. I also LOVE the caramel apples at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is seeing my grandkids come over all dressed up and taking pictures of them. As for something to eat...Reece's Peanut Butter cups.
ReplyDeleteReese's Peanut Buttercups all the way!
ReplyDeleteMilky Way...love the creamy caramel!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is the little bit o honey bars. MMmmm.
ReplyDeleteI love all pumpkin treats...pumpkin roll cake, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin spice latte's....you get the point!!!
ReplyDeleteNot sure I only have one favorite memory. I used to help my grandma make pop corn balls when I was little. I wish I would have written down her recipe. There was an older lady in our neighborhood where I grew up who made wonderful pop corn balls too. We all called her grandma. A few years ago at a wedding I saw her and it was so nice to talk to her. I would have to say one of my favorite fall memories is when we would all go rake leaves at my in laws. That's where we were today so now I'm really sore. It sure didn't seem like that much work when I was younger. It was so much fun today though to see my new puppy running and jumping in the leaves. Righ now he is crashed on the couch and actually snoring. Happy Halloween and happy fall!
ReplyDeleteMy 31 year old daughter is developmentally disabled. We spend the morning of Halloween bagging up soft candies and little stamped cards to tell people they are loved. We made 145 bags this year. We then take them to the elderly housing, where my mother lives. There we pass them out to the elderly or hang the little bags on their doorknobs. There are about 40 people living there. The remaining 105 bags we take to my mother's apartment in the complex, where my daughter hands them out to the children that come. While she is doing that, I describe each of the children's costumes to my mother, who is blind. This allows her to feel like she is also giving to the community and sharing in the holiday. Her apartment is becoming a favorite stopping place for the children. We ran out much faster this year, so will need to increase our number of treats next year!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Favorite candy treat - Heath Bars
ReplyDeleteFavorite Halloween treat - watching my teenagers carve their pumpkins. I love their creativity and enthusiasm! They make some of my favorite Halloween pages to scrapbook. I'd love to win pages made by your studio!!! Now that would be a real treat!
I have to say my favorite part of Halloween is the hayride our neighborhood provides for anyone who wants to participate! Our neighborhood is mainly one and two acre lots, so way too far for kids to walk. It's a chance for neighbors to catch up as little ones trick or treat. The cool air, hay, and blankets are a treat! My favorite treat has to be a snicker snacker!! Thanks so much for sharing these great Halloween memories!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite treat is making home-made caramel apples for my family and letting everyone decorate their own once the caramel is wrapped on the candy...such fun...such a great family tradition!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite "treat" this year was while trick or treating with my 5 year old son. It was our last house and he told the lady holding the bowl of candy, "Just give me a little bit. My bucket is almost full!"
ReplyDeletePicking out pumpkins...baking treats for the family...Stamping cute cards and goodies...Passing out candy and seeing the excitment and costumes of the children...being a new Mimi (grammy) and seeing the world through the eyes of Jada Rose, our little caterpillar...and then being forced to eat the left over Halloween chocolate that did not get passed out. It's a tough job but somebody has got to do it.
ReplyDeleteThe best treat of Halloween is making caramel apples with our nephews... they love adding sprinkles and licking the caramel. The smiles on their faces are treat enough for me! This year we tried Apple Pie Caramel Apples! yummy goodness!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween treat is walking through the neighborhoods trick or treating with my 11 yo. I know these time will soon be gone, so we are busy making our memories together!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is going to our children's fall harvest/ Halloween parties at school.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is the lights that begin to sparkle in the night, with better visibility of the stars, pumpkins, candles, fires, and at the end Christmas lights.. all showing there is brightness in the dark
ReplyDeleteOver the years Halloween has changed. It started as a fun holiday I looked forward to every year for the mountain of candy I would get. It was wonderful seeing the streets crowded with other children disquised as their favorite TV or novel charatures. Then Halloween transformed to being all about my friends, and costume parties well held so that we had scrabookable subjects. But today my treat is watching my two young children enjoy a fun holiday with magical costumes that transport them to a world where their imagiantion rules. What an amazing transformation this day has taken for me over the last 33 years, I have to say there have been a lot more treats than tricks.

ReplyDeletePumpkins bars with homemade cream cheese frosting! We usually use squash in place of pumpkin, sooo much better! Num
ReplyDeleteMy favourite Halloween treat is definatley roasted pumpkin seeds... as a child, I loved mushing around getting all the seeds out of our soon to be carved Jack-o-lanterns and the familiar scent of my mom roasting the seeds and of course eating them... now as a Mom, I get to share these same memories with my two boys. We had a great time over the weekend cleaning our pumpkins, drawing "scary" faces on our jack-o-lanterns and then roasting and eating our seeds - YUMMY!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite edible treat are Butterfinger bars but my favorite Halloween treat are the pictures I have of my kids in their costumes. I love all the pictures that I have from over the years. I want to make a Halloween album so that I can see the time progression and who got to wear the costume next. We did lots of passing down. With four kids and me trying to make their costumes I tried to cut down on time and money..
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween "treat" is the colors of fall that we see all around us, from the beautiful leaves on the trees (this has been an exceptional year in the midwest), to the pumpkins, and even all of the fields being harvested. God's beauty shines all around us.
ReplyDeleteI also loved the joy on my kids' faces as they paraded their costumes at school and at the various parties we went to. For them, it's not all about the candy, but the fun.
My favorite treat was a weekend away with my husband. We rented a cabin in the woods. We hiked every day and took lots of gorgeous photos.
ReplyDeleteCaramel apples....it isn't Halloween without them. And this year I found a recipe for home-made caramel sauce. So yummy. My favorite memory of this is when our daughters were little. The caramel apples were on the counter, sitting in the powdered sugar on a piece of waxed paper. Our little one reached up and grabbed the edge of the paper and pulled.....she looked like a little ghost - powdered sugar all over her face, and the apples on the floor! It was a great scrapbooking moment.

I absolutely love Halloween but sadly we only have ONE trick or treater that comes to our house. I get my fill of costumes at work though. Since our building is next door to the child care center on the Navy base, the kids dress up and trick or treat in our bldg, which is a lot of fun seeing 1-4 year olds. My favorite candy is CHOCOLATE, especially snickers and kit kats. Happy Halloween! :-)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween treat are the big Reese's peanut butter pumpkins! I love Halloween and fall... it is my favorite time of year!
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for Snickers! I'm not sure if my kids even know what they are since I always grab them before they see them! Bad mommy!!
ReplyDeleteFor me Halloween is about the fun. I love to gather with friends, family and neighbors for a Halloween party in my backyard. The night is full of costumes, games, crafts and festive foods. The best part is hearing the laughter of children and parents alike.
ReplyDeleteMy guilty Halloween pleasures:
ReplyDeleteHalloween decorating
Pumpkin crafting & carving,
The smell & sound of falling leaves,
Hot homemade chili & corn bread,
for my sweet tooth - Reeses PB cups- oh yeah baby.
I enjoy Nutter Butter cookies covered in white chocolate and then two small chocolate chips are used for the eyes. We call these simply "ghost cookies".
ReplyDeleteAs a kid I always looked forward to my mom making those for me.
Meredith
Our favorite Halloween activity is setting up our fire pit on our driveway, having the neighbors over for a driveway dinner, snacks and "spirits" while handing out candy to the kids. We have the warm fire see all the great costumes and time with friends. It is a GREAT night!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is see all the creative people ideas and costumes they come up with. Me being a diabetic I do not eat candy so that is totally out for me so I do love this holiday because it is the start of family and friends getting together and I get to send out plenty of homemade cards and gifts. I totally enjoy the crafting of great projects. Happy Holiday to all at CTMH>
ReplyDeleteHalloween is our families favorite holiday! For the past 16 years my husband & I have been decorating our front yard & the yard next to ours. We are know by everyone in our community as the "Spooky House on Lochaven" We start making things the last 2 weeks of Sept. & set out our first prop in the yard on Oct 1., after that it takes us about another week to finish the whole display which includes lots of moving mechanical scrary props. Our house & yard is a walk through so people park on the side of the road to come up & get spooked by all my creepy monsters that are mechanical & some nights are alive! Our frinds come & dress up to hide & pop out to give you a little fright! We are open everynight & pass out candy to everyone that comes. I say you are never to old for some sweets! I my self love to dress up & share in everyones fun as well! People come from miles around just to see what we have come up with for that year! We have watched families grow over the years & those children are now bring their children to share in this tradition. Our display has a different theme & props for each year! We do not charge a fee but do accept donations! Each year we take the donations & look for charities in our area & give the money back to our community! (Goodfellowes, Open Door, Adopting families in need for the holidays through our local Parks & Rec.) We wouldn't be what we are today without all the support from our "Halloween Fans"! What a great feeling it is. Did I say yet ~ How much I love Halloween?!!
ReplyDeleteMy absolute favorite thing (followed my chocolate-LOL) is seeing my teenagers still getting excited about designing and creating their costumes. And, then the icing on the cake is taking the pre-trick-or-treating photos of the final costumes they have made.
ReplyDeleteTootsie rolls!
ReplyDeleteNow that my kids are in High School, they don't go out trick-or-treating; they go to parties instead. I get to stay home and hand out candy to the neighborhood kids. It's always a treat to see all the different costumes and see how excited they are!
Halloween at our house is full of friends and cute little ones dressed up as princesses, Nascar drivers, fairies, and cute little cats. Oh what fun!!! My favorite treat is anything chocolate...but good ol' Twix and Snickers are at the top of the list.
ReplyDeleteDana
My favorite Halloween treat is actually a fall treat. It is the feel of a crisp autumn morning or evening with the sun coming up or down over the hill displaying God's wonderful colorings in Orange, Gold, Red, and Browns. It is my favorite time of the year.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Halloween treat has to be seeing the excitement in my little kiddos eyes. This year was full of delight as my youngest was big enough to walk up to the doors himself and he caught on fast that it was worth going to every door as they would fill his little halloween bag with a SWEET TREAT! He was right up there with his older siblings saying "trick or treat!"...so many fun memories!
ReplyDeleteI love Mr. Goodbars they are the best!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite treat is sugar daddy lolly pops, a blast from the past I know, but they are soooo good. They stick to your teeth for days, probably why I don't eat them anymore.
ReplyDeleteThis year my favorite treat is Snickers. I just can't get enough...
ReplyDeleteThis year my daughter is 3 and loved every part of Halloween. That made it even more fun!
I love my mom's pumpkin chocolate chip cookies with frosting & her hot wassail drink. YUM! :P
ReplyDeleteI also love seeing all the little kids so excited in their cute costumes. Favorite treat (which is typically an Easter treat) are Peeps shaped like pumpkins...Hm-m-m, I wonder if the drug store still has any on the shelf? LOL!
ReplyDeleteWowzer! I am the 194th commenter! Gosh Jeanette, you really know how to get someones attention! My favorite has got to be the candy corn pumpkins. I love love love them!
ReplyDeleteI love Halloween, especially dressing my my 2 little girls! My favorite treat would have to be chocolate bars - any kind as long as it's chocolate!!!!!! My waist line doesn't take lightly to it though!!
ReplyDeleteWe currently live in Kansas and there is a small town close by names Louisberg they have a cidermill that makes the best apple cider donuts. So for the last couple of years, we have gone, out to the mill to go on hayrides, pick our pumpkins, go to the corn maze and last but not least we each get one apple cider donut. This will be our last year living in Kansas, so it was a bit sad for me to think of if as my last one, but who knows maybe I'll drive up right before we leave and see if I can get one more.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love my gardens, I also love the time of year when I cut everything down. Call me crazy, but winterizing the yard is a great treat on a mild, autumn day!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite "treat" is the joy in the face of my boys...they love it and my youngest is just starting to talk and to listen to him say trick or treat is priceless.
ReplyDeleteMy big treat was a Halloween banner that a good friend made for me. It was absolutely awesome!
ReplyDeleteA lot to say but, I'll keep it short.
ReplyDeleteCandy Almond Joy!
Last years favorite memory, was watching my son in law scare kids. We all decorate the front yard. One little boy said "oh yeah this is the house where I peed my pants at last year."
This year it was going to the pumpkin patch with my granddaughter (almost 3) and family. So cute to see her find the pumpkin she could pick up. And then to watch her pay 5o cents for a pumpkin (it was a gourd) at the market. And last and the best was to watch her get to ride the "moo cow train"
