Those three words really sum up our adventures on Tuesday, January 12 in Christchurch. In the morning, the entire Close To My Heart executive team and their spouses (me, Monica, Kristine, Brian, and Jeff, who is our newest VP) headed to the town gondola. It’s an understatement to say it was a breezy morning—the gondola cars were swaying wildly on their cables and the wind was brisk and howling at the cracks in the windows. Undaunted, we took the ride to the top and were rewarded with a glorious view of Lyttelton bay and its crystal blue waters. This is the bay where fearless explorers—think Shackleton’s “Endurance”—set sail for Antarctica; it is daunting!
We tried posing for photos on the scenic deck at the top, as well as on the overlooks above the harbor. But every photo looks like we’re flying—the wind was so strong, our hair is being blown off and our jackets look like Superman capes. In the afternoon, we met up with Consultants for a bold and breathtaking afternoon: jet boating on the Waimakariri River. If I recall correctly, the translated name of the river means “rushing water” and it was certainly that! I’ve jet boated before, and it didn’t disappoint this time—the roar of the engine, the glory of the river valley, and the sheer adrenaline when the driver does a 360-spinout in the boat—it’s heaven (but with lots of screaming). It’s a blast and I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.
Coming up tomorrow: How do you eat in an Octagon? And when does punting not have to do with football?
