I absolutely LOVE mid-August! The sun still beats down brightly, but we’re all out shopping for sweaters and long pants. We’re riding bicycles but buying notebooks. The kids are watching movies but mom and dad are watching the calendar: it’s almost time for back to school!Today’s color scheme is a great blend of fall color and summer sunshine—which perfectly captures the feeling of that first day of school, doesn’t it? I’ve used Black, Cranberry, Honey, and Olive (in sturdy cardstocks with a touch of Honey B&T paper pulled from the “Zippidee” kit... A song we’ll all be humming when the kids return to school.)
My featured layout uses basic and versatile patterns from Reflections, including a Main Frame and Bottom Border variation. Reflections are always among my favorite patterns to work with—they’re easy, dramatic, balanced, and always put a lot of emphasis on the photos. And what photos! Today’s focal point is sweet Robert, who I’ve always called “Little Robert Redhead,” son of our Creative Marketing Manager Kristy McDonnell. Kristy was expecting Robert when she started working for Close To My Heart seven years ago, so I’ve literally been able to watch Robert grow up. He used to be a regular visitor to the office as a baby, accompanying his mom to work for the first six months of his life. When I close my eyes, his little baby face and tuft of red hair are still what I envision--I can hardly believe he’ll be starting first grade this fall! The subdued hues of this fabulous color combination are the perfect accents for his dark shirt and backpack, the green grass behind him, and of course, his signature auburn hair.
The color combo also works wonders in cards, whether you’re creating a card for a new teacher, or celebrating a bounteous and shared harvest, as shown in my “Garden of Delight” card. The palette is a reminder of the summer still lingering and the promise of a warm autumn just around the corner. I can almost hear the school bell ringing now!

Awesome artwork as always but I really LOVE the first card. What an interesting color combo that works so well. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWow! Love the apple card! Really beautiful coloring!
ReplyDeleteSomeone has a cutie child.
ReplyDeleteI just love the color "Honey". And the combos you come up with are awesome. It's one of my favorite things about CTMH, every color has a way of coordinating into thousands of combos. Outstanding!
ReplyDeleteawesome layouts
ReplyDeleteLove them all...however, unlike most parents, I do not sing happy songs when my kids go back to school. For me, it is one of the sddet days of the year. I miss them so much!
ReplyDeleteShould be saddest, sorry!
ReplyDeleteJeanette,
ReplyDeleteYou have given us the only bright spot to look forward to on Monday: your Color Me Mondays! I can't wait to see your new combos and artwork. :-)
I love this combo and can't wait to use it myself.
The new school year is a sad time for me. Along with children's birthdays, it is a reminder of how quickly they grow. And they are so happy to do it!
Thank you for the beautiful inspiration! Have a great week!
I love all the art work you come up with! I too will be sad come time to go back to school.
ReplyDeleteI have been homeschooling for the past few years. This year our daughter will be in 5th grade, and will attend public school. (put sad Mama face here) Since this is such an important year of development, we thought we should let her have more interaction with kids her age - can you tell I'm the one who's having a hard time with this - lol!
I wanted to let you know that I purchased all of your layout books and use them quite often. I went to a scrapbook retreat this weekend and used the Abstract layout from "Cherish". I liked it so much I used it on over thirty two page layouts! With different paper and turning the pages to fit my pictures best none of the pages look the same, even with the same basic design. I completed 89 pages this weekend! It was my most productive scrapbook weekend ever. Thanks so much!
