The story I have to share today will make you think of the term “Party Pooper” in a whole new light! This past week has been a time of growth, celebration and accomplishment in the Lynton family. The entire family—Jared and Leslie and their kids; Ashley and Jason and their children, plus Rachel, Aubrey, David and I all enjoyed a great party at Pirate Island Pizza. We shared a huge 24” pizza, we divided up tokens and played video games, and talked and laughed as the mateys served us great family food. As parties go, it was one of my favorite. I really do love being together.
But it was the reason for the party that we all have three-year-old Mason to thank. Both he and his little sister Lilly are still in diapers and that’s a lot of work for their mom and dad. Each Wednesday afternoon, I get to watch the kids and I’ve been working with Mason to brave the bathroom and use the toilet like a big boy. But he’s been pretty nervous about it. “I scared,” he told me just last week. (I get that—when you’re only three, it can be pretty scary to see something falling out of your body, right?)
But this weekend, when I went for a visit, he was SO excited. He just bubbled confidence and enthusiasm, eager to tell me every detail of his successful “deposit.” I have to tell you that I found myself beaming right along with him—ah, the simple joys of toddlerhood! As a reward, his mom and dad had promised him a trip to get “pirate pizza,” so we all joined together for a one-of-a-kind celebration. Party poopers unite!

Boy can I relate! My sister called me this morning and invited us to McDonald's for lunch because her two-year-old went poo-poo on the potty. How could I say no to that kind of invitation? You guys definitely had a grea time. Way to go, boys!

ReplyDeleteDid the same thing for our "potty parties" (only it's Chuck E. Cheese's here). Nothing works quite like bribery for these little milestones!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to celebrate such a wonderful accomplishment! For my son we had two things that worked for him. I started the "Poop Fairy" that magically delivered a small piece of candy every time he pooped in the potty. My mom also promised him $1 every time he pooped in the potty. The first time he did it, he was so excited that I had to take a picture of it and send it to both daddy and grandma!! I am sure that was an email they wish had gone to the SPAM box ;o
ReplyDeleteMy little two year old boy, Spencer is potty training. We have gone two days without an accident and working on day three. He gets legos whenever he poops or goes a full day without accidents. Yesterday he even went into the bathroom and pooped without me knowing. Then he asked me to come look. He was so proud, but I was even more proud. Boys are the best! Thanks for sharing your fun party!
ReplyDeleteSuccessful potty training is a HUGE deal...I feel for the mommy :) I had 3 in diapers (no twins just kids really close together) I potty trained the 3 year old and the 2 year old 2 months apart by promising potty parties (explained like a birthday party) gifts, cake and all...we even sang a song about potty on the toto...what we adults do to get our way! LOL...LOVE it thanks for sharing :)

ReplyDeleteJeanetee-that is AWESOME! My girls are 6 & 3 and I am thankfully done with diapers (and have been for about a year! My older daughter was 3.5 before she was comforatable making "deposits," but my little one wanted to be a big girl like Sissy and mastered it at 2!
