Like most of you, I've been glued to the images and stories coming out of Japan over the weekend. At first, I felt shock at the impact of the earthquake. Then disbelief watching homes burn or cars tossed about like toys in a bathtub. Then overwhelming grief as the faces of tragedy began to emerge. Faces of weeping mothers. Families left homeless. Children separated from their parents. Faces of sheer loss and despair. It is perhaps these faces, more than any other statistic or occurrence, that has left their mark on me. I am heartbroken.
Today, my heart and prayers go out to those suffering in Japan. I'm going to hug those I love a little closer. I'm going to TELL THEM I love them. Life is too precious and short to go without forgiveness, kindness, and support for others. I really believe that's the No. 1 reason we're here on earth. I'm sure there are ways we can help; my mind is churning with ideas—I'm not one for helplessness when there can be hope. Until I can say WHAT, though, today is certainly a day for reflection, sorrow for those lost, gratitude for the tender mercies of the Lord.

ReplyDeleteJeanette,
ReplyDeleteI share your same feelings as you do as I watch the news each day for any miracles that may come of this disaster. Thank YOU and all those who are joining me in praying for Japan.
On Friday morning I turned on the morning news show as I always do... to find myself hurting by what was happening! My children could tell how upset I was and couldnt understand why. As I talked to them about what was happening I found myself teaching them that we love everyone and hurt when our fellow man hurts!! As I still tear up everytime I hear or see what is happening still, I find a little peace in the lesson I was able to pass on to my young children.
ReplyDeleteJeanette, Thank you for sharing your feelings! I pray everyday more and more people are found alive!!
We've been lucky my husband's aunts that live near Tokyo and their families are ok. My sister's friend stationed in Southern Japan is ok as well. We still worry as we try to comprehend the distance between where they are and where this happened. The story that got me today was about the 2 dogs that stuck together until they could be rescued.
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to all these people. They are in my prayers constantly. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings, too.
