Spotlight on Art: Fill In the Space

I'm back from another absolutely fabulous Convention. Every year I am so impressed with all the fabulous Consultants, and I love hearing everyone's reactions to new products. I'll be posting some pictures from the event in coming days, but I wanted to get back to the Spotlight on Art entries.

You and I both love embellishing our projects with shapes cut on the Cricut. I’ve been crazy for the Cricut ever since we started working on developing the ground-breaking Art Philosophy collection we introduced last year, and I am super excited for our new Artiste collection that we just announced. Those of you who have the Art Philosophy cartridge know how fun it is to cut with, and how its versatile shapes fit almost any project. You’ll also know that every time you cut a shape, you end up with a cut-out silhouette of the shape that you can also use to great effect in your artwork. Take a look at some of the projects that one of our creative Art Studio artists has put together using these Cricut cut-outs!

This summery scrapbook page truly is a splendid piece for showing just what I mean. Take a look at the large butterfly on the left side of the page. Isn't that a beautiful accent? It was achieved by cutting the butterfly out of a piece of Kraft paper. Instead of attaching the butterfly itself, the artist layered the Kraft piece over a piece of Hollyhock cardstock with some 3-D foam tape. The reverse dimension and color from this accent is just the perfect touch for this layout.

You can see the same technique on this card. Each of the sparkling stars was cut from a piece of Lagoon cardstock. The artist rotated the cardstock sheet on the mat between cuts and changed sizes between cuts in order to get stars of various sizes and orientations. She then backed her cardstock with a baggie full of Prisma glitter and attached the whole piece to the front of a card.

This banner takes the technique to a new dimension – Dimensional Elements! The artist cut her shapes from the cardstock and used a craft knife to cut the shapes from the Dimensional Element banner shapes to make the decorative ends of this banner. She backed the cut-out shapes with stamped cardstock.
