Convention is like a great meal (and any mom/cook knows this is true): you work, work, and work to prepare, and everyone gobbles it up lightning speed, and then it's over. That's always the way I feel on Saturday, our final morning of Convention. I'm almost awestruck by how quickly the event has flown by. That's probably the lack of sleep talking!
This general session day I get to do something I love—get comfortable and get real, answering Consultants' questions onstage. It is just a delight for me, because I don't have to worry about following a script or hitting my mark, I get to just be myself and see where the answers take me. This year brought a great crop of questions, from the odd "Have you ever ridden a horse?" (Nope! I rode a donkey as a child and quickly learned I'm allergic to hairy beasts) to the mandatory "What's your favorite new product?" (Artiste, of course!) to the more challenging "What's the update on your health?"
As ever, I answered every question as thoroughly as I could and with complete honesty. It's hard for me to talk publicly about my health because it's such a personal matter. But I love my team and I love Consultants, so I made the decision to share what I'm going through. Thank you for your unwavering support of me! As I talked about my ongoing battle with anxiety and I could SEE the love on your faces. I could FEEL the concern radiating from each of you in the audience, and it made me not only free to share my thoughts, it refueled my spirit.
If I could share just ONE THING that I have learned from my journey as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, entrepreneur, and CEO it would be this: learn to forgive. I shared that thought with our general session audience, and if you weren't there, I share that thought with you, too, every bit as fervently. Forgiveness is liberating. Forgiveness helps you grow closer to your Heavenly Father. And most importantly, forgiveness brings you the peace you can't find any other way. I love my life, every bit of it, even the challenges, and learning to forgive has been the single most powerful gift I have received on this earth.
Oh, yes, and I did share a few other things, too: my favorite food (homemade Pico, but don't let Kristine anywhere near it!), what silly things David has done that I just had to scrapbook (too many to list, but falling out of his chair while dozing during a business class is pretty high on the list!) and my feelings on American Idol, yes, I do know how to pick the winners!
The rest of the day sped away in a flurry of game shows, Operation Smile auctions, crop projects, and dancing till the cattle came home (we were in Dallas after all, it's cattle down there!). Thank you so much to every single Consultant who joined us for this incredible, unforgettable, whirlwind experience of friendship and fun. I will never forget it, and I'll never forget you!

Thank you, Jeanette! Convention was just awesome - it gets better every year! Your staff was super - always making things so much fun for us and so friendly and warm. Thank you for sharing with us during general session on Saturday - that was really special. Stacy Julian was such a wonderful speaker. I enjoyed her years ago in Dallas too. I cannot wait for Orlando next year, but will really enjoy our new products in the meantime. Thank you for bringing back the album retreat-so much fun!
ReplyDeleteCTMH is just the BEST!
I wasn't able to attend Convention but I hope to next year. I too struggled for a time with anxiety (mine was deemed "panic disorder"). I can tell you it was an awful time of life but with prayer and medication I was able to overcome it. I no longer needs meds (but this girl is so thankful for them while I needed them!) I pray you will overcome this issue to. God is faithful so hold on to that:-) Bless you dear lady for your openness and honesty! CTMH ROCKS!!!!
ReplyDeleteAwe, hugs to you, Ms. Lynton. I love how this company has grown and changed with the times and is staying on trend with all the fun new papers, home decor projects, workshops on the go, and most of all the new cricut cartridges. They have free'd up so much time in our hobby to continue to create and reach higher with our creative goals. I love your words about forgiveness...very true. May God bless you, sweet lady, and know that your consultants are behind you and we love you.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanette and all of your staff for a great party in Dallas. Everyone is always so pleasant and helpful. I did not have to go to far for the party this year(35 miles from home LOL) but there is never a distance too far to go to experience convention. Every year seemd to top the year before. I am looking forward to Orlando next year and loving the new toys I have to enjoy in the meantime. You All Rock!!!!
ReplyDeleteJeanette, It was awesome to get the opportunity to go to Convention this year. I am loving being a part of a company that has and shares their values, integrity, and even the struggles openly. This was my first Convention and I can not tell you in no amount of words how impressed I was. The corporate staff are so friendly and easy to speak with. You have a great team of people as well as a wonderful family. I continue to keep you in our daily/nightly prayers. We can conquer all things by the Grace of God, love of family, and support from friends.
ReplyDeleteThank you for bringing Close To My Heart into my life by being the founder of this wonderful Company.
I feel like I have a sisterhood of crafters all over the country now.
Give a Huge HUG to all that make Convention Happen.

PS. It was awesome that you read one of my questions. I nearly fell in the floor. Thank you for your answer.
Thank you Jeanette & the Corporate staff for Convention!! This was my 2nd one to attend & I loved every minute of last years at Disneyland and this years! I was feeling a little sad that I probably would not be able to attend next years Convention if the dates stayed on course, because my oldest sons birthday is July 10th. As much as I love this company, the products and attending Convention, my 1st born son's 10th birthday would trump Convention. But imagine my surprise when the dates were announced!! I was texting my husband to let him know, next year will be another Family vacation with Disney World!! Thank you also for your planning and preparation to allow us to include our families to this wondeful event & location! Now to work on getting myself on that stage! ;o)
ReplyDeleteNow for you Jeanette, you looked amazing!! Congratulations on your weight loss & health improvements. My continued prayers for you & your health and well being!
