Finding the Gift

It's Christmas, and retailers would tell you that it's been Christmas for more than a month now, with specials happening online, festive bargains in stores, and holiday music blasting in every aisle for weeks. I actually love the merriment and fun of shopping during the season. However, over the past few years, I've really simplified my Christmas celebrations, from gift exchanging to decorating. I've found that without loads of trappings, ribbons and tags, boxes, packages and tags, that Christmas comes, just the same (with a nod to Dr. Seuss). And not only does it come, it STAYS.

I find that I'm more focused on Christ, his miraculous birth and his glorious mission on earth. I spend less time hanging lights and more time looking at the stars. I shop simply, but spend more time with family laughing, playing games, just being together.

I hope you enjoy whatever brings you joy this Christmas season, including the silver bells and power shopping. But my wish for you is that you also have an opportunity to savor the season, reflecting on Christ's birth and his gift to each of us: repentance and eternal life. No gift could be better!
