It's a glorious day today—and not just because of the weather (but that's pretty great, too). No, it's a glorious day because today I can enjoy my freedom. I can read my scriptures in peace. I can do something as simple as shop online for shoes. I can look forward to a great afternoon picnic in the backyard with my family. Pretty ordinary things to do on a holiday. But this isn't any ordinary holiday: this is Memorial Day and it's a glorious day because I CAN do all those simple things knowing that I live in a free country, ransomed by brave men and women willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for that freedom.
Today, I'm filled with gratitude as I hear lawn mowers running and birds heralding spring. None of these are small things, and I know that I enjoy them all because so many fought in many wars—and still do, right now, at this moment—to protect those principles of life, liberty, and choice that we value above all else. So thank you. We honor your sacrifice. We remember you. We know that it's because of YOU that today is a glorious day!
