Artbooking Made Easy: Baby Mini Albums

Hello, friends! Thank you to everyone who left a comment from last week’s post. I loved all of your clever, creative ideas, and I’m happy to announce the winner of a Cricut® Artbooking Collection: Stefanie Haluk! Please send me an email with your mailing address to me@jeanettelynton.com, and make sure to put “Crush on Artbooking contest winner” in the subject line.

Today’s Artbooking Made Easy features one of the most darling mini albums I’ve seen! Anything that has a baby theme is cute enough to begin with, but this one is just plain adorable, and it features the cutouts from pages 50–51 of the Artbooking booklet. So let’s take a look!

Was I right? Doesn’t this mini album just make you want to relive all those special newborn baby moments?

Let’s start with this cover. Monica already pointed out the white-on-white overlay interspersed with little pops of color behind, which is such a great idea! The artist simply cut out the overlay in three different colors, so that the colored inserts would fit perfectly inside. It’s always fun to play around with colors and see what works. Have you ever tried pairing the same color and then just using accent colors here and there? I also love the title. The artist only used the “baby” from the “Oh baby” cutout on page 50. You can always break up titles and just use what you need and the save the rest for another project. She used two different colors for the title and attached each of them using 3-D foam, which gives much more dimension to the title.

I love the stamping technique on this page. It’s called 2nd generation stamping—stamping multiple times without re-inking to create an ombre effect where the imprint gets lighter and lighter—and it looks so great on this page! The artist repeated the technique in sets of three with these chevron arrow stamps, but you could make your own patterns however you’d like!

When it comes to creative crafting, it’s all about thinking outside of the box! I love when people use objects other than how they were meant. On this page, the artist has taken one of the pocket cutouts and just flipped it on its side to use it as a photo mat.

Monica showed us in the video how to get a different color for the flap on the envelope, which turned out so beautiful, but I also love the little embellishments that she added—the Keyboard Uppercase stamp set is just right for labeling little things like this. I also love how she used a paper clip from the Laughing Lola assortment and combined it with just a circle cutout and a gem from the Lollydoodle assortment.

Don’t you love when pages are cute and functional? This page has so many great features. The artist used the “BABY” photo mat found on page 50 of the Artbooking booklet, but she cut it out in Daisy White as her base color, and then cut it out again in Lagoon and Sorbet so she could cut out the letters and make them really pop! The pocket on this page is also from page 50 of the Artbooking booklet, but the extra detail has been cut off to better display the card tucked inside. I love the mix of the alphabet stamp with the handwritten information on the card. There are so many details of a baby’s birth that you never want to forget!

Also, notice that there’s another white-on-white overlay here, this time accented with a few Aqua Dots.

One feature you know I love: journaling! The precious photo on this page hides a little journaling card for all of those sweet newborn moments you never want to forget!

I hope some of these techniques have inspired you to create your own mini album! There are so many important moments with a newborn baby, and you want to make sure to not forget a second of it!

  2. This is so, so sweet. One of my cousins (that I used to babysit, in fact), is having her first baby this Spring. This would be such a sweet gift for her. Thanks for another wonderful, instructive video!

  3. Thank-you Jeanette for this wonderful project! I have a customer that just bought the art booking cartridge and admitted that she had not yet used her new Cricut that she has had for quite a while! I sent her your link, hoping it will get her inspired and started on an album for her now 14 month old girl.

  5. Thank you for sharing your inspiration with us. This album can be adapted for any age with a little bit of tweeking. I also like how you add technique into your blog because sometimes it is easy to forget things like second generation stamping. The old is new again. Always, Alayne
