My daughter Rachel is a beautiful brunette. Her best friend, Rachelle, is a bright blonde. Rachel always glows deep tan; Rachelle tends to be fair. Rachel’s wardrobe is full of bold colors and sassy patterns, while Rachelle’s look is a little more understated. But these two girls are fast friends and I had fun capturing their friendship in an impromptu photo session just before the first day of school. Because of the great contrasts in the girls’ personalities and looks, I considered my color combination carefully and ultimately decided to pull my inspiration from Rachel’s funky Tulip-colored shirt. Because Tulip is such a bright color, I wanted just a kiss of the color on the layout to tie it all together without overpowering the great photos. That’s why I chose the soft colors of Sweet Leaf, Crystal Blue, and Desert Sand as my primary emphases. It works just great for this smart and stylish, teen-friendly layout!
The combination also blossoms in fun cards, making the perfect warm statement any friend would be happy to give or get. As with the layouts, I chose to make Tulip my understated inspiration. Just a pop does the trick! This color combination really taught me that sometimes the color we begin with (Tulip) isn’t the color that takes center stage—especially true with the brighter, more vibrant hues. Surround your “wow!” color with gentler tones and you find balance and beauty—just like Rachel and Rachelle!

ReplyDeleteI love this combination. As always your artwork is fabulous but I really think this is among my favorite pieces of art you have shared. The Twitterpated kit is amazing and so versatile. The patterns on the back are just as fabulous as the ones on the front. I never would have thought to combine Tulip (my favorite color) with Twitterpated but it works so well. Thank you for being such an amazing person and inspiration to all.

ReplyDeleteI purchased the "Bear and Wagon", an "A" size stamp called "puffy heart" (which I stamped using the masking technique, filling my wagon with hearts) and the arched saying "Thanks a Bunch" (Stamped above the wagon load of love) Along with a rainbow pad, raised panel cards, a glue pen and prisma glitter. I was instantly hooked! They'll have to bury me with a stamp in my hand! Look what you started Jeanette!l
I LOVE this color combo and the artwork is SO inspirational!! I have been in a rut for WEEKS and needed to plan my Holiday Card and this is exactly the colors I am using, I sat right down and got er done!! Thanks for helping me out of a long, (what seemed like forever....) rut!! =P
