My friends know that my favorite place on earth is Hawaii—I love its warm beaches, blue skies, and relaxed atmosphere. It’s simply the perfect escape. Today’s post features all kinds of fun artwork that will help you share that spirit of aloha (even if you live in Utah, like me!).
The island party kicks off with easy-to-make umbrella toppers—these are perfect for perching on a frosty drink, spearing melon cubes, or even completing this adorable sand-fiilled “luau” centerpiece. Th
e secret behind this unique item? Believe it or not, the tube I used is an empty MyAccents tube! Ribbon Rounds tubes and other craft-jar containers work perfectly. My main centerpiece is an “Aloha” wooden letter set, covered in Moon Doggie papers and dressed up with colorful stamp images.
And then, I went all out with a lei created from Just Blooms paper flowers. I used a full garden on my lei, but you can experiment with a little or a lot of flowers, inking them to get the color palette you prefer. And just because I can’t resist great Hawaii-themed scrapbook pages, I’ve designed a fabulous layout that’s surprisingly neutral. I used the neutral Background and Texture Duos papers from the Moon Doggie kit plus coordinating neutral cardstocks as my base. Then, I added a bright pop of island flavor with my bright hibiscus and other colorful accents. It’s the ideal way to bring an island escape home… no matter where you live!

ReplyDeleteWhat I love about your artwork is that you don't feel like you have to stick with the color combos from a preexisting paper packet. You take a little bit from here, a little bit from there and come up with a whole new magical look. I need to remind myself to do this.

ReplyDeleteI love the "white sand" neutrals from Moon Doggie with the pastels of the blues in the water, pink, and yellow. I also love the circled accents with brads. It is a very fresh take on a tropical layout, which is usually super saturated with colour!
