Yesterday, I sent two of my beautiful daughters off for yet another first day of school—I just love the first day of school, and it makes me a little sad, too. If you’re a mother, I’ll bet you know exactly what I mean!
It’s so fun to watch them leap ahead, to progress, to get one step closer to adulthood. But it’s also sad to see a relaxing, family-filled summer come to an end and to close another chapter in their childhood. It seems as moms, we regularly anticipate “tomorrow” but when it arrives, it can be tough to accept that “tomorrow is already here!”
Still, yesterday was an exciting day—it started with a missed alarm clock and a rather rushed morning. Aubrey, our 9th grader, burst in to get us going, as we were nearly late for an appointment with Ashley. My daughter Ashley had volunteered to do hair an
d makeup for Rachel and Aubrey’s first day. Despite our hurried morning, the glam-session was fun and the girls looked absolutely adorable!
Last week, we took an end-of-summer family vacation, and as is our tradition, we did our school shopping on the trip. This time, we found a wonderful little store that had some terrific stylish clothes the girls fell in love with—Rachel, my 11th grader is a true fashionista and she landed some awesome finds.Aubrey landed some great distressed jeans—although I admit, I’m more comfortable with distressed paper than distressed jeans!
But being ready for school (and life!) is a lot more than great jeans, styled hair, and perfect makeup. It’s about being a beautiful person inside as well as out, and I just have to tell Aubrey and Rachel that YOU ARE. I’m so proud of the way you’re growing up and the great women you’re becoming. (If you could just stop growing up so darned fast!)

I'm glad someone loves the first day of school! I am a first day of school hater. I hate that summer is drawing to a close, that I now have to go back to being the homework nazi, that I have to try to roll my boys out of bed each morning, and that another year of life has passed us by. How is that for negative? Thanks for your positive approach and for making me realize there are a few good things about school starting...like football games (lol)! BTW, your girls are beautiful! Don't worry! I won't let Tannon anywhere near Rachel!

ReplyDeleteI,too, struggle with the start of school! I am always the mother who cries! This year we sent our first born to middle school. What an experience it was! I did pretty good seeing the girls off but when I watched my Tucker walk into the courtyard my heart sank. He looked so small next to all the 8th graders and he was standing there all along. He is at a new school this year. It is a School of the Arts. He actually had to audition to get in last January. He was accepted, as were some of his friends from his elementary school. It took all I had to stay put as I watched him staning there all alone. Luckily, his best friend showed up, they saw each other and were busy talking and haning out together. This made me feel much better! I did, however, cry the whole way home and thought all about his first day of kindergarten the entire day!
All three of my children have had a great first week of school. They love their teachers and life is good!

Weren't they just 2 and 4 feet tall in their best dresses showing off our new Catalogs last year? :-)
They sure have grown into beauties!
Next week I'll be sending my daughter off as well..to Australia!
When they start leaving the country instead of just down the road to school, boyO it takes clothes shopping to the next level!

What lovely pictures of your beautiful daughters! You know.... I became a consultant for CTMH when my youngest went off to college. I'm so glad I did. I do miss when my children were all at home, but having new friends and a fun hobby has made it easier to let them go be adults. Enjoy the next few years. As you know, they go by much to quickly.
