… but when they ARE lost, the person you want out looking is David Lynton, my sweet husband! Since 1988, David has been a member of Utah County Search and Rescue, an amazing 100% volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing those injured or lost in Utah’s mountains, deserts, or lakes. Volunteers donate their time, vehicles, gas, and their support craft (like boats and ATVs), and willingly jump to the call no matter the time of day or the weather.
This week, Search and Rescue held its annual appreciation barbecue, and it was an honor to attend. David received a certificate of thanks, as well as a special award for placing second in the highest number of “callouts” attended in the past year. Like I said, if you’re lost, he’s the one you want on your trail! As for me, I was simply bursting with pride at his selflessness, his commitment to serving others, and his consistent dedication to this incredible team of rescuers.
Being a volunteer can mean incredible physical demands—rock climbing a cliff face in the pouring rain with 30 pounds of gear on your back, for example—and yet David never wants to miss a call. Years ago, when he came to work for Close To My Heart, he told me, “I want to work for the company, and I’m excited to take the job. But I can only accept a position if I can head out on a Search and Rescue call whenever one comes in.” I not only thought it a fair request, I was eager for him to serve in Search and Rescue whenever asked. Sometimes it means that I eat dinner alone or that I’m worrying about him as he works on a treacherous mountain in a snowstorm. But ultimately, I know that Search and Rescue has made him a better man… and he has made Search and Rescue a better organization, and that is worth the sacrifice. It’s certainly worth appreciating: and I appreciate and love you, David for all you do.

Awesome! Before marriage I was a 911 emergency medical dispatcher for a small (well, not really) county (kane) in so. utah and I have GREAT respect for S & R! At the time my brother inlaw (wasn't my BI-L then) was the sheriff and member of the S & R I know the hours and hours of time it takes to save or find others! Kudos to your husband!

ReplyDeleteYou know, I've had the opportunity to meet both you and your sweet husband and to have conversations with both of you. I honestly think that your spirit of service shines through both of you. It shows in how you love others and it shows in how you love each other. There were a few things I thought when I met you. #1: Oh my goodness...she's LDS! LOL! For I think that we, as LDS, carry a different spirit about us and service is a big part of that. #2: I could listen to you talk and giggle forever...you are such a sweet soul and David is as well. I truly admire you both for the love that you share and the service you provide to your community. You have every right to be proud of him for his accomplishments and his commitment. What a blessing you both are to each other and your community. A love like yours is a beautiful thing. Thank you for continuing to share you with us. You inspire in more ways than you will ever know.

ReplyDeleteYour husband may have known my brother who was sergeant of the LasVegas S&R and also was president of the national S&R for several years. I know he did trainings with Utah groups - Clint Bassett.
