For this week’s Color Me Monday combination, I’ve chosen a mix that takes me back to last week’s scheme of red, green and brown. This week’s variation features Cranberry, Cocoa, and Garden Green, grounded with Colonial White. These two weeks’ combinations perfectly illustrate a great lesson in color balance: when you’re working with 3-4 colors, select no more than two to be your “wowie” colors. If all the colors are bold, your artwork will lack restfulness and pleasing composition. On the other hand, if all four of your colors are muted, nothing will “pop” and it will be bland and undifferentiated.
Last week, my “wowie” colors were Cranberry and New England Ivy, and I chose a softer brown, Desert Sand, to round out the mix. This week, my “wowie” colors are Cranberry and Cocoa—a much richer, eye-grabbing brown. Because I had my two “pop” colors, I dialed back the green from New England Ivy and used Garden Green instead. Voila! I have a unique twist on the same color scheme idea, with completely unique results!
P.S. I absolutely love the “Lynton”—which is made from stacked Dimensional Elements monograms, covered in paper and painted. Can you believe it?
