Magic in Moab

I’m a mom, wife, scrapbooker, and artist. But I’m also a die-hard raving fan of FOUR-WHEELING! I am totally passionate for this amazing sport. (And people ask me all the time, “Is four-wheeling really a sport?” “Heck, YES, it is!” I’ll reply. It works your arms as you steer and your legs as your hold on for dear life.)

Eager to prolong our gorgeous fall color and spend some time with my family, we headed to beautiful Moab (in southern Utah) for a few days during the girls’ fall break. The skies in Moab are perpetually azure blue and the contrast against the red rock is simply breathtaking. It’s one of the most stunning places on earth.

We took along the Davis family, some good friends of ours, and had a great two-day “workout” on—and off—the trails of this desert wonderland. On our first day, I drove my four-wheeler with a bandana over my face and my daughter on the back of the ATV. We visited Gemini Bridges and Chicken Corner and all kinds of other scenic lookouts with funky names. By the end of the day, we both had dirt in every possible nook and cranny. The bandana did its best, but I still had red dust lining my teeth!


On day two, Rachel asked if she could drive my ATV. It was her first time as driver, and she did an exceptional job piloting younger sister Aubrey and staying safe. This meant that I was David’s passenger—he is a talented and daring driver, if I’ve ever met one, and I’m SO glad he was there! He can scale virtually any steep face and negotiate even the toughest trail. Because of him, I got to see some glorious vistas, each one reminding me of the beauty of the earth and the true gift that life is. Before fall fades, I hope you get to make trails of your own and explore the colorful world right outside your door. We’re so glad we did!
