Seeds of Change!

Here’s something you probably don’t know about me—every time I look at stamp sets featuring seed packets I get a little queasy. It’s true! Oh, the designs are adorable, all right. And I DO love fresh veggies from the garden. It’s simply that years ago, I was working on a seed packet-themed stamps for an upcoming catalog. I was also in the first trimester of pregnancy with my daughter Rachel. My morning sickness collided with my design deadlines in a way that has left an indelible memory—and every time I see seed packets, that memory is fresh all over again!

That’s why today, I decided to conquer the past and embrace the fun of spring gardening wholeheartedly. Today’s earthy and mirth-y color palette of Cocoa, Olive, Sorbet, and Vineyard Berry are bursting with life and happiness, and even given my past “memory,” I found it a rejuvenating color combo. It’s perfect for dappling on apples or applying to asparagus, don’t you agree? The subtle patina of colors can be created by shading the fruit/veggies with blends of watercolor pencils. Just lightly work the pencils into the areas you want to shade (after stamping the main image), by rubbing the color with your fingertip in a small circular motion.

And because this is the first Color Me Monday in May, I’ve also included a great single-page calendar for the month. Are you making yours along with me? I simply love this fun and easy project. They are so great to use as calendars during the month, then as a companion page to complete a layout for my album once the month is over. Create your calendar page along with me and by the end of December, you’ll have a year of memories to cherish—all good ones, I hope!

  1. I remember that cute little seed packet design and making little envelopes with it. LOL - those were the beginning days of stamping for me! Thanks for the memories!

  2. ah - morning sickness - very nice.
It is the song "One" from "A Chorus Line" that does it for me - oops, there goes the tummy again!
The little boy who innocently instigated the nausea is nearly 28 and one of the greatest people I know.
The nausea of pregnancy? A privilege.

Beautiful work, Miss Jeanette. Happy May to you!

  3. These projects are beautiful! BTW, I had to laugh at your nausea trigger because I have one too. When I was pregnant with my daughter, my son was almost 3 years old and loved to watch Bob the Builder videos. Sometimes I was so queasy that I just had to pop in a video to keep him busy so I could lay down on the couch for a few minutes. Even to this day, whenever I hear the theme song from Bob the Builder I get queasy! LOL! *Ü*

  6. I like the subtle inking on the edge of "May" on your calendar. The white on white looks crisp and clean, and the edges give it that pop.

  7. It is so funny that you would share this memory because I was pregnant (and sick!) with my daughter when i got my counsultant starter kit featuring the Laid Back collection (2006) and now when ever I see that paper I feel quesy! It's funny how our bodies/minds do that!
