Weeks of Wonder: Spray Pen Magic
The Close To My Heart Convention kicks off this week and we’re all SO excited to unveil an idea book full of great new products, tools, and techniques. But there are still plenty of great things about the Spring/Summer book, and one of my favorite products is the spray pen. This product is pure “magic” when it comes to filling in a little blank space.
Take a look at the “have a splendid day” card. Using a stamp image as a mask, you can create a perfect mottled sky by spritzing around the mask using a mixture of re-inker and water. The kites have also been spritzed for a coordinating look—just spray a mounted stamp image and press to paper for this great texture.
The spray pen is also great in creating watercolor-look backgrounds. The sorbet background on the “Happy, happy birthday to you…” card was created by spraying one of the Backgrounds & Borders stamps (D1463) with a re-inker water mixture, then stamping on the paper for a subtle background.
Adding Pearl Paint to the re-inker/water mixture gives the spritz from the spray pen a soft shimmer. Use two different colors to make your image come alive. First, mix the concoctions. I like to use re-inker to about the second line from the bottom of the pen.
Then add water and two pea-sized drops of Pearl Paint. Shake to mix ingredients together.
At a slight angle, spray the stamp image with one color and then stamp on your paper. (Hint: the farther away you are from the stamp image when you spray, the finer your mist will be on the stamp.)
Next, at a slightly different angle, spray the stamp image with a second color, then stamp directly over the first stamped image or double stamp the image for a great two tone effect.
Quick, easy, and versatile, the spray pen is a great tool to have. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of uses for it, even with all the new Autumn/Winter products…you won’t have to wait much longer to find out!
