Spotlight on Art: Pick Pockets

There are a lot of ways to add interactivity to a layout; perhaps one of the easiest is adding pockets. This week’s spotlight artwork from the studio shows a few projects that will get you thinking about different ways to create and use pockets.

Pockets come in handy when you would prefer to have your journaling tucked away rather than written directly on the page. That’s what our artist has done in this first layout; when you have a lot to say, whether it is private or not, sometimes it just looks better to have it tucked away. For the pocket on this page, the artist cut one of the tag-style cards from the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge and sewed around the edges. Isn’t that fun?

This project uses the same pocket, but this time it IS the artwork rather than just an accent piece. This ring of pockets is held together by a simple jumper ring. Decorate the outside with pictures of your loved ones and then tuck in some special information about each one. This sort of thing would come in handy when you have a lot of new names to learn, or as a fun quiz game. There are a lot of ways you can use this same basic idea.

Lastly, our artist hung some pockets on an attractive banner. The pockets give dimension and visual interest to this piece, but they also hold information. Each pocket also contains an inspirational quote, adding another level of interest to the décor piece. These pockets are made from envelopes, folded and fastened closed with one side flap left open. What a great idea!
