Spotlight on Art: The Color of Summer

I love the color combination used in today’s spotlight artwork. Our artist combined Lagoon, Autumn Terracotta, Goldrush, and Honey to invigorate this summery artwork. School may have started around here, but we still have some nice summer weather ahead of us, and this artwork is just the thing to remind me of that. Especially this page:

What a great keepsake for preserving some wonderful vacation memories. The strips of Honey, Goldrush, and Autumn Terracotta cardstock on the left side of the page look fabulous together, and the scissor distressing adds a lot to their blended look. Do you also see where the artist has stamped with StazOn ink on strips of regular clear tape and added them to her page? The last thing I want to point out is the title, which nicely showcases our new Houndstooth Alphabet Irresistibles. It all looks so care-free and fun – just the way I would hope to remember my summer!

Here’s that same fun color scheme, now presented in a 3D box. If you guessed that the shapes you see here are from our new Cricut Artiste cartridge, you are right! This unique box has a pop-open top, covered up by the accordion flower in this example. The scalloped border along the bottom edge of the box was made from the same accordion flower shape—the artist just trimmed off the scalloped edge instead of folding it up.

The Artiste cartridge’s 3D offerings extend beyond boxes. Take the fun dimensional bows on the front of this card for example. And when you open up the card…

…you find a sleeve holding a gift card! The size works out perfectly when you cut the card at 4 ¾”—gift card not included. And for all of you dying to try these projects out for yourselves, you’ll find all the shapes that our artist used on a single Artiste key: the ‘g’ Key.

  3. I so wished that CTMH would make their digital kits available to use in other software programs! I would love to purchase them...but do everything in one program and really don't want to learn a whole new program that is more limited! Hope this is a upcoming change soon! I used to sell DOTS how many years ago and still love the products, but have since gone digital!

  4. How did you tie off your stitching on the gift card holder? I can't see where you started & stopped.

  6. @Sheila, on the gift card holder there are teeny-tiny knots on the top fold. YOu can just make them out in the 4th picture in the post. I hope that helps!

  7. I must make that gift card holder- at what size is the dial set?

And, "learning" Studio J is fast, even for a techno-"uh-oh" like me!

  9. Many of the items have recommended sizing noted in the Cricut booklet that accompanies your cartridge. For the many different cupcake liners that appear on the cartridge, that recommendation is 2 inches, which will fit a standard sized cupcake. Note that "2 inches" refers to the HEIGHT of the image, which is how all items on the cartridge are measured and cut, by HEIGHT. So even though the actual liner wraps for several inches, the height of a standard liner is 2 inches. This guideline can be used when cutting any of the flat images from the cartridge; when cutting linked elements or dimensional projects, the size refers not to the height of an individual piece, but the height of the FINISHED, assembled item. I hope that is helpful.

  11. I bought the digital version of this cartridge and it didn't come with any of the booklets, so I'm not really sure exactly what is what when I am working in Cricut Design Space. Is there a way I can purchase the booklets that normally come with the physical cartridge?
