Artbooking Made Easy: Wintertime Layouts

Greetings from a fresh, new winter wonderland! In my little neck of the woods, there is new-fallen snow as far as the eye can see. What a pleasure to have the holiday season in full swing, with chilly weather to make it official. Hurrah for winter recreation at its finest: sledding, skiing, building nondescript snow statues, and capturing them all in photos.

Today’s episode of Artbooking Made Easy is all about building wintertime paper projects for photos of your chilly activities. It’s the perfect companion to the frozen flurries you may have been witnessing recently. Whether your weather is just like mine or very far removed, you will enjoy applying the artistic techniques you see in this video to any project at any time of the year!

There you have it! It’s no longer over the river and through the woods to get to your wintery destination—you can do it all from home with your Cricut^® Artbooking cartridge.

In the flurry of layouts from the video you saw was one that was left untouched. Let’s take a look at that one now: the 12"x 12" Walking in a Winter Wonderland layout.

The overlays on these pages are some of my favorites! You can see them in your booklet on page 77; notice that there you see them mounted at a different orientation than those on this layout. By simply flipping the overlay, it becomes a whole new shape! These ones are cut at 11" and then inked on the edges with Whisper ink, and they leave a lot of open space to be filled with other cardstock, B&T papers, and plenty of photos. A mixture of patterns and colors on the page makes it a delight to look at.

The pennant banner employs the same technique of being backed with another shade of cardstock and touts lightly inked edges.

The shimmering bow on the left page has been made from silver Shimmer trim. Isn’t it delightful? It’s a refined, clean shape for a bow, but the brightness of the Shimmer trim makes it very noticeable. I love that visual balance!

The snowman you see lower down on the page has been accessorizing with all the right cardstocks this season! The body cut in Colonial White leaves room for some fun, colored winter wear. The hat and scarf are pieces of the same die-cut, cut twice in different colors. The scarf is popped with 3-D foam tape and really appears as if it might blow away any minute.

Both pages are backed with a fun assortment of papers from the Frosted paper pack and bordered with classic straight stitching. The journaling spot for this specific set-up is found in the middle of the right page, but it would fit well into any spot of your choosing. If you have more to say, make it bigger!
