I love holidays where we get to honor important people—and today's one of the greats! My own father was such an extraordinary example of hard work, parental guidance, and steadfastness, that his influence permeates my thoughts and choices even today. I love you, Dad, and I'm so grateful for how you've shaped my life.
I'm a pretty lucky lady to be surrounded by many great examples of fine fathers—David leads that pack! He's not only a firm and consistent parent, he's truly fun. Whether it's bad inside jokes or teasing the girls or roughhousing with the grandkids, David is up for any adventure, any activity. He brings such a spirit of service to our family as well, working on behalf of so many in the county's Search and Rescue program, and he's so committed to the discipline of martial arts, and of course, he supports a large team who rely on him in the Close To My Heart warehouse too. He continues to be the perfect match for me and I love how he leads our family.
And now that my children are grown, I get the joy of having grandchildren and watching my son and son-in-law be dads, too. Every year at this time, I can't help but reflect on the importance of fathers in their children's lives, not just when they're small, but always. I know many of you have fathers, husbands, brothers, and sons who are making these same sacrifices for their families and working so tirelessly to make a difference—they do! Today let's celebrate the gift they are to us all!
Thank you to all of the men, biological fathers or not, who "step up to the plate" to love, nurture, and help raise a child (of any age)!
