The 5th Day of Thanksgiving: Seasons

As I sit and ponder this beautiful autumn day, I can’t help think about the love I have for the seasons. I love when the weather changes. The rainstorms, the thunder, the lightning, the heat of the summer, the snowy days of winter, all are welcomed. I remember playing outside in the thunderstorm as a little girl with my friends. We would scream with delight as we splashed and played in the growing puddles. Many times we were soaked to the bone. Eventually, I would run inside to my room, throw open the window, change my clothes, crawl in my bed, pull the covers up to my chin and listen to the thunder and the rain. Those were incredible magic moments.

Later in life, when my children were little and frightened by those thunderstorms, I would tell them that the thunder was just Jesus telling them He loved them. And if there was a lot of thunder, He really wanted them to know He loved them very, very, much. They would just look up at me with big blue eyes and say, “Really Mom?” I assured them again and within minutes my little ones were off to play.

As every season comes, I am grateful and I think to myself, “This is my favorite season!” And over the years, I’ve realized that I love them all. I love how they change—the cycles, and the new beginnings that they each offer. I am grateful for this beautiful place I live. Today, I love the gorgeous colors of the changing leaves on the tree-covered valleys and the majestic mountains in my little corner of Utah.
