Popcorn Popping!

“I’m bored! There’s nothing to do!” How often do moms hear those words during the summer? Here’s a way to get rid of boredom and make a fun, fabulous and EASY treat that all the kids can participate in. (It’s so simple and delicious, and you’ll love it, too!) Here’s my favorite recipe for chewy, ooey, gooey, soft and yummy popcorn balls. I received this recipe from my children more than 20 years ago after they attended a group outing. We’ve loved these popcorn balls ever since. They only take minutes to make and for sure they will make YOU the coolest mom in the neighborhood!

Yummy Popcorn Balls
½ cup butter
2 ½ cups brown sugar
1 cup corn syrup
1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 large bowl or 6.5 oz. bag of popped popcorn
Candy mix-ins (optional)

Stir first three ingredients and bring to a boil. Lower the heat on the stove and stir in the milk. Stir mixture while simmering to form soft ball state. (This means you need to drop a few drops of caramel mixture in a cup of cold water. If it forms a soft ball in the water it’s ready.) Turn off stove and add vanilla. Pour over popcorn, stir in mix-ins and form into balls.

I love taking Belle and Noah to the Candy section of the Grocery store so they can pick their sweet mix-ins. You can add M&M’s, Reese’s pieces, trail mix, fruit trail mix, yogurt raisins, gummy bears, cinnamon bears, licorice or anything else that tickles your fancy. Happy popping!

  1. Oh Jeanette...popcorn balls! One of my favorites, but with braces it has been over 2 years since I have had one! UGH! So your post today reminds me that in just 9 weeks, I will be running to the popcorn store to purchase some yummy popcorn balls! They tell me I will get these braces off in 9 weeks! I think I might have to gather the ingredients and make them instead of buying them! LOL
    Thanks for sharing your recipe!

  4. I so wish I had my grandma's recipe for popcorn balls. I've never tasted one like hers. We used to make them together when I was little. I wish my kids and husband could have met her... she was a wonderful person. Thanks for making me smile! Maybe we should have a popcorn stamp set for the new fall Idea Book...

  8. Jeanette, Will you adopt me? LOL You always find delight in the simple things and share that with everyone you meet. You're one of the very few "real" people in this world and it would be so wonderful to see you more often than once a year (and have to share you with all the other consultants). Thanks for being you!

  9. Sounds like a good idea to make these and have a "Gidget" movie night to introduce the "younger generation" to MoonDoggie and Gidget! Of course some photos and a scrapbook page would have to be included using MoonDoggie papers!

Thanks for the recipe - man, those little kids are CUTE!

  11. Thank you for the recipe! It would be great for our family movie nights. I just wanted to stop in and say Hi. I'm signing up to be a consultant next month! I'm so excited. I've been scrapbooking for 15 years and have never found a company as great as CTMH! I am really enjoying learning new things to do with paper and stamps. I look forward to meeting you someday at a convention. My soon to be upline has been telling me about all the wonderful opportunities that await me.
